THE DRAGON'S WAGON G A M M A P S I C H A P T E R O F B E T A T H E T A P I Fall 2019 G reetings to all and your families from the Beta Tau Alumni Corporation (BTAC). I have two exciting "opportunities" to note for alumni. 1. Support the Chapter House We have been in our 207 Bogue St. location for seven years now. The chapter house is in a great location and big enough to accommodate the undergraduate members, but it is rented and worn. East Lansing and Bogue Street, specifically, may soon undergo significant changes with real estate development projects. Therefore, there is a good chance there will be some changes in our housing situation in 2020- 2022. Your attention, and any support on this potential change, would be appreciated. Changes can be opportunities if we apply good timing and resources! It is important that we, as alumni, get to know the young men living at 207 Bogue St. and gain more perspective about the housing situation. You are always welcome to attend chapter meetings at 8 p.m. on Sunday evenings. If you are planning to stop by the chapter house, please contact Chapter President Denver Paver '20 at paverden@msu.edu in advance. 2. Attend the 10th Annual Tailgate The second opportunity is a happy and important event for Beta Tau. Our 10th Annual Tailgate is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, for the Spartans Homecoming game against Indiana. Game kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. BTAC would like to gather in -kai- to honor our MSU Beta alumni from the 1940s and 1950s during this special event. The tailgate location will be at its usual spot toward the back of the Jension Field House parking lot #67. We will have a Beta flag and balloons to best locate the tailgate. Friends and family are welcome. Let's make a special effort to gather this Homecoming and renew old friendships, honor alumni, and get to know the actives and new members. Help us set a new tradition this year with our annual alumni tailgate. I hope to see you there! Yours in -kai-, Keith Loch '86 Beta Tau Alumni Corporation btac860@gmail.com Two Ways to Get Involved with Beta Tau This Year DEVELOPING A PRINCIPLED LIFE How Dan Reason '57 Found Brotherhood and Personal Growth at Beta H aving grown up a bit shy and introverted, Dan P. Reason '57 decided to join Greek life to meet people at MSU. "The Beta brothers I talked with impressed me, and Gamma Psi felt like a group where I would fit in," he shared. "When I tell people that I am a Beta, they usually respond that Beta Theta Pi is a fine fraternal organization and are impressed that I am a member. It's a great feeling." Dan feels that his Gamma Psi experience helped him to become a more confident and outgoing person. After attending MSU for two years, Dan left school to fulfill his draft requirements. Upon leaving the service, he went back to college and earned a B.S. from the University of Buffalo, followed by an MBA from New York University. He was then hired at Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T, where he worked for 32 years, retiring as a member of their technical staff. Every few years Dan tries to visit the chapter house for Homecoming. He has attended several Beta conventions as well, and although distance makes it difficult, he stays in touch with fellow Gamma Psi alumni living in the Atlanta metropolitan area. "The active brothers I have met are an outstanding group of men, especially in the area of scholarship," Dan said. "Thanks to Gamma Psi, I'm more outgoing and relaxed in social and professional settings. I am honored and thankful to be a Beta." It's not just Dan who found a place in the Greek community— his whole family has been involved in Greek life. His wife, Marge, is an Alpha Gamma Delta and remains active in local and national alumnae affairs. Their sons joined Sigma Nu at the University of West Georgia, and their daughter joined Alpha Chi Omega at Auburn University. Beyond his fraternity interests, Dan previously volunteered with a group that teaches seniors to use computers and now volunteers with the Gwinnett Senior Leadership group. He and Marge enjoy traveling and going on cruises. Dan can be reached at dpreason@bellsouth.net.
