Alumnae were then shown a gift chart and asked if they consider $800,000 a
realistic fundraising goal for Delta Xi Chapter. As shown in Chart E, 93% of
interviewees said "Yes" or "Maybe." This response is above average compared to
other Pennington & Company studies.
Building early momentum in a campaign by securing commitments from the Delta
Xi Chapter alumnae leadership and key alumnae will be essential to developing
further confidence in donors and demonstrating overall campaign success. It is
important in any future fundraising effort to secure leadership-level commitments
early to influence others once the campaign reaches the mass mailing phase. Having
strong early support will help inspire donors to stretch their own commitments. It
is critical to build sufficient campaign momentum throughout a project so that
alumnae feel the campaign goal is attainable and the proposed project is realistic.
Providing confirmed construction costs and a financial pro forma in the campaign
materials will help confirm the chapter's ability to afford the project, thus
increasing alumnae confidence in the reality of the project's completion.
Alumnae were then asked if they believe Delta Xi Chapter should proceed with a
capital campaign. As shown in Chart F, only one alumna felt that the board should
not proceed with a capital campaign. This indicates that alumnae understand the
