compared to other Pennington studies and is a positive indicator that alumnae see
the necessity for the proposed project and may have a desire to support the project
should the alumnae leadership move forward with a campaign.
After reviewing the case for support, alumnae understand the need to update the
décor. Tri Delta has been a top sorority on campus and women want to see it remain
a premier sorority for the next generation. A 1990s alumna stated, "First
impressions matter when recruiting. Our house is a piece of that impression."
When discussing advantages of a renovation, interviewees overwhelmingly agree
there is a need to update the décor and furnishings to the first floor and basement
common areas. Alumnae are excited to see a plan that looks current and bright. A
1980s alumna commented, "This is beautiful! There's something about the
hominess of the house and not having it be all marble and new." A 1950s alumna
noted, "I know it's expensive to upgrade housing, but I'm glad they didn't tear
down the house. It has a lot of charm. It's important that we have high standards
and make a good impression." A 1990s alumna summed it up best when she said,
"All you needed to show me was the interior photo of the Delta Gamma house.
Everything in Tri Delt is so outdated. It all needs to be refreshed and brighter."
