board. A few women suggested there should be more content updates via social
media that focus on areas such as competition on campus, achievements of the
undergraduates, and updates to the chapter house. A 1990s alumna stated, "We need
a higher level of communication on how to be involved when you aren't on a
committee. They also need to publish events and activities further in advance to
allow women to work them into their schedules." Another 1990s alumna
commented, "They're trying, but there needs to be a changing of the guard. They
have some very loyal alumnae, but they've been on the board for a long time. They
need to step down so that other alumnae feel they can step in." Through the
interview process some alumnae remarked that they are eager to get involved but
noted that their requests to help went unanswered or were unsure of where they
could fit into the current volunteer structure.
Consideration should be given to recruiting alumnae who are experts in fields
beneficial to the running of the organization, as well as the maintenance of a chapter
facility. The alumna should be provided with an explanation of the value she will
bring to the organization as it pertains to the job description and goals. She should
also be given an expectation of a time commitment. This allows members to join
and leave under a clear context. Alumnae volunteers are a vital resource to the
chapter, and care must be taken to ensure they are not overworked or become
discouraged.
C. Attitude toward proposed project
In this section of the feasibility study, the interviewees examined the proposed
renovation plans of the chapter house. Using the project highlights, design plan,
and cost estimates, each aspect of the plan was discussed in detail. Responses are
summarized in the following paragraphs.
Alumnae were asked to assess how important the proposed renovation would be for
future of the chapter. As shown in Chart C, 89% feel the project goals are "Very
