MISSOURIGAMMA PAGE 3 WELCOME BACK Hello, MO Gamma alumni! My name is Jacob, and I'm the new VP programming for the fall 2019 semester. The Chapter has gone above and beyond in every aspect of fraternity life. Throughout this letter, you will see each aspect of the house and how the members have carried out the principles of SigEp. Since the spring semester has ended, this letter will recap the major accomplishments of the Chapter and a few events that occurred later in the semester. ATHLETICS AND ACADEMICS SigEp MO Gamma requires each member to participate in at least two intramural sports as part of the athletics principle. However, many members chose to participate in more than two sports as it is a great opportunity to take a study break and socialize with their brothers. The Chapter has always done well in athletics, but this year we truly shined and won softball, football, basketball, and many other sports, which contributed to the Chapter taking first overall in intramural sports. We could not be prouder of this accomplishment and those who helped the Chapter achieve it. Not only is the Chapter excelling in athletics, we are also doing very well in academics. We have been either first or second in grades for 9 of the last 14 semesters, and this year, the Chapter excelled by taking first in grades in both the fall and spring semesters with a GPA of 3.3. This is the first time SigEp has won both athletics and grades. We are ecstatic to have achieved this tremendous accomplishment and plan to continue this success in the coming semesters. SERVICE AND PHILANTHROPY Throughout the semester, we participated in many service events, whether they were through the university or in the community. All semester long, many members went to Backpacks for Bros every Wednesday afternoon to pack meals at Wyman Elementary School in Rolla for children in need. We also participated in many one-time events like MLK's Day of Service, Community Partnership Retail Shop, Mark Twain National Forest Cleanup, and First Robotics. The Chapter has continually shown its support for the community, and this semester, we completed more than 1,300 service hours. SigEp's philanthropy supports two organizations: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Russell House. Each semester, a multitude of events are held to raise money and awareness. We dedicate each semester to one of these organizations and this semester was dedicated to St. Jude. The Chapter reached out to their families and anyone they know for donations. There may be one person in the house in charge of philanthropy, but it is a whole Chapter effort to help these organizations. In addition to donations, we hosted our first-ever Trivia Night at Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla. We had an amazing turnout for the event and even had a team from the Rolla Police Department! Through our efforts, we raised nearly $2,000 for St. Jude. DAD'S DAY Of course, the spring semester wouldn't have been complete without a Dad's Day. This is always an event that our members look forward to. Many fathers arrived in the morning and did various activities with their sons, including golfing and shooting at the gun range. In the afternoon, we spent a majority of the day at the Lions Club Park in Rolla where we played games and grilled with our fathers. EXECUTIVE RETREAT Toward the end of every semester, we transition the new executive board into their positions and review how the Chapter has done over the course of the semester. This semester's executive board went above and beyond, receiving phenomenal ratings from our Alumni Board for their exemplary work throughout the semester. Our new executive board is quite different as it has six first semester sophomores on it. We are confident that this new team will continue the success from last semester and lead the Chapter in the right direction. ALUMNI FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME As undergraduates, we would love to hear from you, whether it's advice, stories, or just to get to know each other. If you have any feedback, suggestions on what you'd like to hear about, or things you'd like to share with the Chapter, you can contact me through the information below. Feel free to provide constructive criticism as well, as that will help me improve in my role as VP Programming and cater to what you guys might like to see from the Chapter.
