PAGE 2 BEARTRACKS Thank You, Loyal Brothers, for Your Generosity W e are extremely grateful to the 26 generous alumni who contributed a total of $19,900 to the Educational Foundation, the Alumni Corporation, and the Alumni Association during the spring 2019 appeal. Missouri Gamma continues our quest to be among the top fraternities in recruitment, scholarship, and housing at Missouri S&T. Alumni involvement is a critical component of these goals, and your ongoing and loyal support directly impacts the future of MO Gamma. Donors are listed below by their giving total to the spring 2019 appeal. Alumni Support Vital to Chapter's Success S tephen D. Hagen '89 went through recruitment knowing several SigEps he played high school football with. "They told me that it was worth the time and effort to be a part of Sigma Phi Epsilon," Steve said. He pledged the MO Gamma Chapter along with two of his best friends from high school. Steve took pride in being a SigEp, especially with how well respected it was on campus during the mid-'80s. SigEp also enabled him to meet new friends from other fraternities and sororities. During his pledge semester, Steve found it easy getting to know all his new SigEp brothers. "It was fun," Steve said. "I had a great time bonding with my brothers." Using these strong bonds that he developed, Steve served as social chairman, chaplain, and Chapter president during his time with MO Gamma. These positions helped him understand that there are many moving parts to running a house. Much like a company, everyone has a job to do, and to achieve success each member must work together. As an upperclassman, Steve saw the light at the end of the tunnel, but he still took time to help the underclassmen whenever they needed it. The advice that Steve offered is still pertinent today: "Enjoy the college experience by balancing the good times with the hard work you must devote to your studies, volunteer activities, and networking." Steve graduated from Missouri S&T with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. He works for AMD, a company that designs high-end computing devices used in many applications such as servers, personal computers, and gaming consoles. Steve is a part of the world-wide sales team. "My end customer is Dell," Steve said. "I am responsible for designing our graphics technology into their notebooks and desktop computers used in consumer, commercial, and workstation applications." Steve's experience in leadership roles with MO Gamma helped him develop the communication skills that he utilizes throughout his career. Outside of work, Steve has stayed involved with SigEp through supporting the capital campaign for Chapter House improvements. "After participating in the campaign a few years back I have visited the house several times," Steve said. "Now that the project has been completed I can say that it was money well spent. The house looks great!" He also enjoys receiving the alumni news updates and appreciates the time and effort that it takes to put the seasonal newsletters together. Steve appreciates that he has been able to stay in touch with his MO Gamma brothers, and he is grateful that SigEp has connected him to several alumni from other universities across the country as well. Steve and Katie, a Sigma Nu Little Sister, have been married for nearly 27 years. They live in Austin, Texas, and have three kids. Both of their daughters attend UT-Austin in the Cockrell School of Engineering. Paige is a senior in chemical engineering, and Anna is a sophomore in aerospace engineering. Their son, Luke, will be a freshman in high school in the fall. In his free time, Steve enjoys golfing and trying to stay in good shape. He and his family are also active in their church, St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Austin. You can reach out to Steve by emailing him at stephen.hagen@amd.com. STAYING CONNECTED Stephen D.
