I was so honored to represent Illinois Zeta at the 72nd Biennial Convention in Washington, D.C., this summer! It was an amazing experience that I will never forget! It was truly incredible to be with over 1,000 Pi Phis of all ages, from all over, singing our Pi Phi songs, sharing stories and creating memories. I made connections with new friends and discovered how much we have in common as sisters and as Pi Phi leaders. One of the most eye-opening experiences for me was recognizing how much bigger Pi Phi is than I realized. It's easy to be focused on what we're doing locally within the Illinois Zeta Chapter, but the reality is that Pi Phis everywhere are doing incredible things every day! I also was impacted by the number of alumnae — from every age group — who are still involved in so many ways. Seeing this involvement really helped our core value of Lifelong Commitment resonate with me. "Convention weekend was an amazing experience that opened my eyes to all the wonders Pi Phi does and can do for me post college," Vice President of Fraternity Development Sarah Demas '17 shared. "I learned that fun and friendship are at the core of Pi Beta Phi. Seeing this firsthand at convention has made me excited for what's to come!" One of the highlights for me was the Parade of Chapter Banners. I was so proud to represent our chapter and carry our banner down the runway along with sisters from other chapters. If you didn't catch the Facebook Live event, check out the Pi Beta Phi Headquarters Facebook page to see our Pi Phi pride on full display! While there was a lot of fun and friendship, we also conducted the business of the Fraternity by voting on several legislative changes. Perhaps the most significant one was the vote to change the organizational officer structure of Pi Phi. The new structure was implemented immediately for the alumnae officers who were slated, and implementation for chapters and Alumnae Advisory Committee positions will occur in the fall during chapter elections. Convention also offered some training opportunities, and I'm excited to share what I learned with our entire chapter. It was fun to brainstorm with other collegians and learn what works well for other chapters and to share knowledge from our chapter with them. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to attend convention this year! I plan to bring everything I learned from voting on legislation, watching initiation, listening to guest speakers and more back to our chapter! I kept hearing that Convention 2019 would be "monumental," and it was in so many ways! In Pi Phi, Sarah Brom '17, Chapter President MONUMENTAL SISTERHOOD ON FULL DISPLAY AT CONVENTION 2019 Sophia Mallidis '17, Sarah Brom '17 and Sarah Demas '17 were proud to represent Illinois Zeta at Convention in Washington, D.C.
