Delta Upsilon Update Delta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Kappa at Missouri State University Summer 2019 INSIDE: Alumna Spotlight p. 2 • Alumnae News p. 3 • Then vs. Now p. 3 • Mark Your Calendars p. 4 Strong Spring Semester Prepares Delta Upsilon for Fall Recruitment T he spring semester was a very busy yet successful one for Sigma Kappa Delta Upsilon. One of our main focuses this semester was scholarship. For the fall 2018 semester, Sigma Kappa's GPA was 3.36, above the all- sorority and all-fraternity/sorority GPA—a position we'd like to stay in this spring! Our chapter regularly holds study nights at the house to help our members maintain their dedication to academics. We recently held a new philanthropy event benefitting the Sigma Kappa Foundation called Sweet Like Sigma K. Hosted at the Sigma Kappa chapter house, this philanthropy event raised $1,000. For $5, guests could eat at our dessert buffet, which included a raffle ticket with their purchase. Our chapter received the Most Panhellenic Association Philanthropic Donations award for this event. For our local Walk to End Alzheimer's in September, our fundraising goal is $3,500, and we have already raised over $5,000! Our recruitment team is working hard in preparation for fall recruitment. Vice President of Membership Stacey Pukala '16 is very excited, saying, "Recruitment is such a fun season for our members to grow closer and add to our sisterhood." Spirit week will take place August 12-16. During this week, we teach our chants, door jams, and recruitment process to our members. Formal recruitment is August 22-25, with Bid day being on August 26. We encourage alumnae to fill out Recruitment Introduction Forms (RIFs) for any potential new member they wish to recommend or discourage from the chapter. More information on RIFs is detailed on page 3. We have been collaborating with other members of the fraternity and sorority community. We teamed up with the other two sororities who live on Cherry Street, Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Sigma Alpha, and held a "Self-Care Fair." This event was held at the Alpha Chi Omega house and we focused on how to destress during finals week. We were paired with Phi Gamma Delta for Greek Week and made some great relationships during the process! For our Mom's Day this semester, Vice President of Alumnae Relations Bella Orlando '17 put on an event at a local movie theater. We watched Sixteen Candles and enjoyed some quality time with our moms. We also hosted a lot of alumnae programming. Bella organized an Alumnae Tea Party at our chapter house and an Alumnae Paint Party at RSVPaint. This was an exciting semester for our intramural soccer team. They made it to the championship game and beat the Missouri State women's club soccer team! Other women in our chapter have participated in intramural sports such as sand volleyball, flag football, basketball, and more! Sigma Kappa Delta Upsilon has truly grown this past semester, and we are excited to be heading into summer. A huge thank-you goes to our alumnae and parents who help make it all possible. We can't wait to see you back at the house in the fall! Loyally, Savannah Gray '17 Chapter President Have you been receiving Delta Upsilon's e-mail blasts? We would love to have you included on our list. To be added, email hcarney@penningtonco.com today!
