PAGE 3 OUR NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES W hile the Sigma Nu experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in our brothers' development. Built in 1974, 809 West Mississippi has been a part of Sigma Nu's legacy for nearly 45 years. Brothers, the house is showing its age. It is clear we must make a major investment in our chapter house to remain competitive, to provide a quality living environment, and to continue excelling with honor at Louisiana Tech. PURSUING EXCELLENCE Louisiana Tech is as academically challenging as ever and the need for a quiet and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. College campus living has changed significantly in the past 10 to 15 years. Residential facilities are the second most important factor in the college decision-making process behind the availability of a student's intended major. This is understandable considering that students spend 70% of their time within their living environment. Our plan to add a conference room and study space will ensure that Sigma Nu excels academically and remains scholastic leaders on campus and within the Greek system. APRIL 24, 2019 On the morning of Thursday, April 24, the Eta Zeta house suffered tornado damage. Fortunately, all our undergraduate brothers and alumni in the area were safe. This storm dropped several trees on our property and took out some sections of the roof in the residential area and back portion of the house. The safety of our collegiate members is of utmost importance to the Eta Zeta House Corporation; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our collegians. Much like our personal homes, our chapter house must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. SETTING OURSELVES APART Many of you know our Pi Kappa Alpha neighbors built a new house in 2014 and Delta Chi built a new facility one block away in 2010. We must also compete with the amenities offered in on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. The university's initiative of updating housing with University Park Phase 1 (13 three-story buildings) and University Park Phase 2 (five three-story buildings) will raise standards and expectations for housing across Louisiana Tech's campus. Our chapter house has lasted nearly 45 years through the wear and tear of fraternity life with no major renovations since it was built. For Sigma Nu to remain the premier fraternity at Louisiana Tech, we must commit to a new, first-class facility to attract and retain the highest-quality men who come to Ruston. This project is a huge step for the Eta Zeta Chapter. We've been saying for years, 'It's about the men in the house, not about the house itself.' With this project though, we will not only have the best men on campus, we will also have the best house on campus. The active chapter is very excited about the brotherhood and atmosphere that the new house will bring with it. We are very thankful for your support to help enhance the Eta Zeta experience." – Mark Russell HZ 1295, Commander
