"Will the chapter have to move out for the renovation? Closing the house
for construction and not having it for the full school year or during rush
would really hurt us." – 1970s alumna
"Do the chapter house amenities compare to the other houses on campus?
We need to make sure we can compete." – 1980s alumna
"I loved the exterior renovation from the ski lodge to the current house. But
I want to see the new plans make the front of the house even more grand."
– 1990s alumna
Several alumnae also expressed concern on how CHC plans to finance the project
and what the fundraising process will look like. A 1990s alumna said, "I am
concerned if we cannot get the loan paid off from the first renovation, we will not
be able to afford a second loan." Others recognize the overall cost of the project
could be an overall weakness. Since this would be the first major fundraising
campaign for Mississippi Beta Chapter, it will be important to explain the
fundraising process and provide a pro forma to show how the board plans to fund
the project.
Alumnae were then asked, "If the board can finance it, should they consider adding
an additional third level to the house?" Several alumnae see the need to add more
space than original plan shows but are concerned with the long-term viability of
filling the house. Of those who responded favorably, alumnae want to ensure the
board has the best long-term plan moving forward. A 1970s alumna said, "What
does the next 10 years look like? 20 years? If projections show we need more space
than the plan is offering, then I think the board should heavily consider adding
another level." Other alumnae believe if competition requests more space, the
board should act. A 1980s alumna said "I am in favor of the top floor addition and
like the new wing. If we don't keep up it is a slow death for Pi Phi at Ole Miss."
