D. Attitude and perception of alumnae capability
The interviewees were next asked to evaluate the potential giving capability of the
Mississippi Beta alumnae. Although this section of the report deals with individual
perceptions of alumnae, it also provides insight into the level of interest and support
of each interviewee.
During this portion of the interview, alumnae were asked, "If the chapter house
corporation decides to move forward with a capital campaign, do you think other
alumnae will support the project?" As shown on Chart D, 56% of alumnae said
"Yes" others would support a fundraising campaign, 42% said "Maybe," and 2%
of alumnae said "No." This is a below-average response compared to previous
Pennington & Company studies. In a capital campaign, it will be important to build
alumnae confidence by showing a list of donors of who have contributed to the
housing project.
When asked why their fellow alumnae would be supportive of a fundraising effort,
many alumnae believe others will give because they recognize the need for the
project, had a positive experienced, are loyal to Pi Phi, and have benefited from
their membership. A 1980 alumna said, "Having a reunion during the last
