Interviewees were then asked about their perception of the house corporation
leadership. Most alumnae admire the hard work of the board and are grateful for
their willingness to make such a significant time commitment to the chapter. A
2000s alumna said, "These are stand up women. All of the house corporation
members have a strong passion for Pi Phi." Several women commented on the era
discrepancy of the board. A 1990s alumna said, "Major salute to these women who
have served on the board for a long time, but I would like to see younger alumnae
involved in the housing project." A 1980s alumna said, "I do not see anyone on the
house corporation from my era. I think they should spread out their involvement to
relate to the larger alumnae base." As previously discussed, it is important for all
alumnae to feel represented because all eras need to be involved in a capital
campaign. By continuing to recruit volunteers from non-represented eras, the board
will increase transparency and trust among the entire alumnae base.
When asked what the Mississippi Beta Chapter House Corporation could do to
better serve its members, most interviewed alumnae said more frequent and
consistent communication to alumnae. There is an evident disconnect between
women who do receive chapter communication and those that do not. For those
alumnae who have received the chapter's newsletter, they expressed gratitude. A
1980s alumna said, "I loved getting the newsletters from the chapter! They are very
well done, and I would just say keep it up." For those alumnae not receiving
information, they expressed a desire to learn more. A 1990s alumna said, "I do not
hear from the chapter at all, and I don't know what's going on. Bringing people
together to the house will help better connect us to each other and Mississippi
Beta." After explaining the project timeline and the fact that the completion of the
expansion could correlate with Mississippi Beta's 60
th
anniversary, many alumnae
expressed excitement and desire to attend a ceremony to commemorate the event
and project. Overall, Mississippi Beta alumnae appreciate the work of the local
alumnae leadership but want more communication shared to them. This desire will
be met by enhancing the current alumnae relations program through Pennington &
Company's services.
