undergraduate newsletter, we do recommend adding a professionally produced,
alumnae-centric publications to the communication program. Alumnae should
receive two newsletters and a biographical update each year. The newsletters
should focus on a mixture of undergraduate content and alumnae news. These
publications should include chapter updates and news, notifications and recaps of
alumnae events, and alumnae spotlights and class notes (individual alumna updates
and notes). Sharing these updates and successes is needed to help alumnae feel
more knowledgeable about and connected to Mississippi Beta, thus increasing their
level of confidence in the chapter and their willingness to offer support in a
campaign. Seventy to seventy-five percent of the newsletter should focus on
alumnae content. The biographical update is a useful tool not only in updating
contact information, but also in gathering constituent news. This demonstrates that
the chapter values its alumnae, their involvement, and their input.
The Mississippi Beta Chapter maintains a strong online presence across multiple
platforms. The top Google result for "Pi Beta Phi at Ole Miss" is the chapter's local
website, olemiss.pibetaphi.org. The website contains information about the
chapter's history, philanthropy efforts, recruitment events, and much more. As of
June 10, 2019, Mississippi Beta's Facebook page (@olemiss.piphi) has 2,130
followers and posts on a regular basis. The chapter's Instagram page
(@olemisspiphi) has 4,893 followers and posts a variety of images several times a
week. It is important to note that these social media outlets are public and those
following the chapter on social media may be from a wide range of constituents,
not only undergraduates and alumnae members of the chapter. While it is not
recommended to replace either print or electronic newsletters with web-based
communication, many alumnae are interested in continuing to receive news and
information about the chapter and fellow alumnae via these mediums.
According to information provided to Pennington & Company, the Mississippi
Beta Chapter hosts alumnae each spring for Pi Beta Phi Founders' Day in April.
The chapter also invites alumnae to the house during football season. For example,
