Saturday, March 2, 2013 Daily News Obituaries COPS Continued from page 1A VIRGINIA MAY KAER RUTH ANN FORSELL WADE January 23, 1926 - January 10, 2013 Ruth Ann Forsell Wade was born in Medford, Massachusetts on January 23, 1926. She attended St. Josephs Catholic School for elementary and graduated in 1943 from Medford High. While spending her younger years in Medford, she and her only sister, Rita Forsell Pote made many lifelong friends (Ginny Delorey, Marie Delorey, Babba Fashett). When she moved from Massachusetts, she would have long phone calls with these friends and would share stories with her daughters of growing up in the east and of trips to Revere Beach, Lake Summit Beach, picnics at the Mystic River, and quality time spent with friends that truly cared about her. She lost her mother at the young age of 19 and her father the following year. These friends and their families (especially Mrs. Delorey) took her and her sister under their love and care to help them through these major losses in their young lives. She was attending Kathryn Gibbs Business College when she met a Navy sailor, Wayne Edwin Wade, and was married on August 26, 1947. To pursue Waynes schooling and career opportunities, they left the east coast and made their home in California. Ruth had a very heavy eastern accent and had many frustrating experiences initially with west coast people not understanding her. Her first daughter, Deborah Ann, was born February 11, 1949 in Oakland, California. Her second daughter, Cynthia Lynn, was born on their 5th anniversary in San Jose, California. Anyone who knew Ruth would describe her as fashionable, fun, health conscious, dedicated to family and always beautiful inside and out. She lived her life dedicated to doing her best in any task she attempted. As a mother, she organized annual two week rustic camping trips to Lake Shasta single handedly, kept an immaculate house, provided nutritious meals, taught her daughters the fine art of shopping at a young age (Macys and Emporium in the Valley Fair Mall in San Jose), and made sure they were brought up in a well rounded environment including spiritual balance (she would often say we were going to church if we had to go in an ambulance!). As her daughters matured, she instilled the strong value of getting an education so they could have choices and independence. She had dedicated years to being a housewife/mother and moved into the work world when her daughters began college. Not being in the work world for those years, she encountered many challenges and had to move into the world of technology. She spent the majority of her professional career at Almaden Vineyards in Saratoga as a routing coordinator for wines sent throughout the world. Ruth loved playing cards of any type. After moving into her condominium in Los Gatos, in her spare time, she learned how to play bridge. She started out with party bridge and developed many friends and bridge partners. She moved into duplicate bridge and became competitive. Throughout her 40+ years of playing, she accumulated enough points to qualify for a life master. Her friends would say that she was a different person at the bridge table and was all business. Although bridge was her passion, she would turn down a date to play to be with family. While living in the Bay Area, she would often go to plays and musicals in San Francisco with her friends. She loved tennis and was able to attend many matches in person. She also enjoyed watching ice skating competitions. Ruth retired in 1985 and moved to Northern California to be close to her daughter Cynthia. She enjoyed her grandchildren Ryan and Courtney, found new bridge friends and bought her new Nissan, which she named Precious (she drove until November 2012). Every Christmas and summer, her daughter Deborah, granddaughter Sabrina and son -in- law John would spend precious time with her. Being a close knit family, she enjoyed family vacations in Montana, plays in Ashland, trips to Disneyland, Grass Valley visits to Carol (Johns mother) and visits to Utah. The last few months of her life were spent managing progressing congestive heart failure. She maintained a positive attitude and told everyone that she had had a beautiful life and knew love. Ruth passed away peacefully surrounded by family members in Chico, California on January 10, 2013. Ruth is survived by her daughter Deborah Wade Compton and Cynthia Wade Weeks-Finnegan, grandchildren Sabrina Ruth Foster, Ryan Nicholas Weeks and Courtney Deborah Graham (and soon to be first great grandchild). She was loved and honored by her son-in-laws John Anthony Compton and Thomas Kevin Finnegan and grandson-in-laws Bradley Foster and Flint Graham. She loved and adored Sarah Margaret Reed and her son Jim Donnelley. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Ellen Kane Forsell, her father Harry Forsell, and her sister Rita Forsell Pote. Also preceded in death were Carol Compton, Ritta Chamberlain and Ginny Delorey. A tribute was held at the Red Bluff Elk Duplicate Bridge Club where a luncheon was given. Because Ruth loved to come home and have a nice glass of Kahlua after an enjoyable day of playing bridge, Kahlua was provided at the luncheon. Her friends and past bridge buddies shared stories and gave cards to the family. She was cremated and her ashes reside with the family. Hearing her voice with the cute eastern accent, sharing with her happenings of the day, and listening to her wisdoms are so very much missed by her family. Although she is no longer here, her spirit is always with us. The investigation, which has consisted of Red Bluff police as well as Tehama Countys sheriff, probation and district attorney departments, local search and rescue and volunteers and the California Highway Patrol, had identified three crime scenes by Friday in the rural area west of Red Bluff High School and east of Baker Road. Nichols body was found there Thursday morning, two days after she disappeared from the high school after attending a class around 10 a.m. Nanfito said around 40 law enforcement personnel worked the case Friday and planned to vigorously continue until a suspect was found. The investigation included neighborhood canvases, which Nanfito said would likely continue through the weekend. Jean joined the Methodist Church as a young woman and participated in conference youth caravans and camps. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where her faith in God undergirded her life through these many years. Jean & Ora had one daughter, Gayle of Novato, CA. Many of their activities - PTA, Campfire Girls, Band Boosters and being chaperones on numerous band trips and at church youth events - reflected their commitment and support of their daughter. Jean is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and a granddaughter, Magi Creelman of Columbus, OH. Jean enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, trips to the coast and visits with family. She also crocheted, providing many lap robes to local nursing homes. Gayle especially wants to thank Jeans caregivers, Joan and Diane; Dr.Wickenheiser and St Elizabeth Hospice who enabled mom to stay at home with her beloved view of Mt. Shasta. Gayle also expresses deep appreciation to her cousins, especially Jan Cole; moms neighbors over the years; her pastors and friends at her church - who shared Sunday lunches, made frequent visits or calls and brought special treats to buoy Jeans spirits.
