Brothers on campus after Greek Week festivities. A fter concluding the 2018-19 school year, we look back on our numerous accomplishments with pride. We recruited 40 new members throughout the course of the year, resulting in one of the largest new member classes in recent history. These men are motivated and driven to lead their campus as Balanced Men. FRESH PERSPECTIVES In late January, the executive board traveled to Woodland Hills, Calif., for the annual Carlson Leadership Academy. The Chapter sent eight members to the convention, each bringing home new ideas and strategies to implement, including a new Chapter website and innovative changes to our dues collection and academic policies. STANDING OUT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON It was an active term for Oregon Beta on campus. Most notably, Oregon Beta ranked fourth in GPA out of 18 fraternities, with a 3.02 Chapter average. On March 2, a team of sophomores won Kappa Kappa Gamma's Kappa Dodgeball philanthropic event and brought home the hardware. In the spring term, the Chapter won the Student Mental Health Associations' annual coin drive. On the intramural fields, the Chapter fielded more than 15 teams across all intramural sports this year, specializing in flag football, floor hockey, and dodgeball. MAKING OURSELVES AT HOME The members living in the Chapter House made significant contributions to improve our facility. Brother Mason Maier '21 painted a crisp mural of the Balanced Man logo above the fireplace mantle in the library, which is now the most popular study area in the Chapter House. On the exterior of the Chapter House, Asher Savin '22 spearheaded an operation to return the outdoor flagpole to 1000 Alder Street. In concert with the recent bathroom renovation, these enhancements make Oregon Beta one of the most coveted places to live on campus. NOTABLE ACTIVE BROTHERS Our Chapter is excited to announce that three brothers have been selected to attend Ruck Leadership Institute this June! Congratulations to Sam Mortensen '22, Patrick McCumber '22, and Skee Springman '22 for representing our Chapter at Ruck this year. Sam and Skee will also be joining Chapter Counselor Jeff Nolz, South Dakota State '03, as our representatives to Grand Chapter Conclave in Houston, Texas, at the end of July. This spring, three new BMS co-chairmen were elected. Ethan Francais '22, Patrick McCumber '22, and Anders Bjork '22 have been charged with scouring the west coast to find future Balanced Men of SigEp. Hailing from Los Angeles, Seattle, and Portland, the new chairmen have the contacts to access a more diverse applicant pool. This year, the Oregon Beta Chapter of SigEp will give out three scholarships. One recipient will be receiving $1,000 and two others will receive a scholarship of $500. THANK YOU, ALUMNI Overall, Oregon Beta enjoyed a successful school year, and we couldn't be more grateful for the alumni who contribute to this continued success, including the newest AVC members. Should you find yourself in the area, please don't hesitate to come visit and reconnect with the Chapter!
