SPRING 2019 The Squirrel's Nest P S I C H A P T E R O F A L P H A G A M M A D E L T A A T T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F A L A B A M A T he fall semester ended with the initiation of 113 new members into Alpha Gamma Delta followed by the annual Feast of Roses to celebrate with the families of each new member. The Fifth Quarter Initiative, one of our chapter's favorite ways to serve the community with the men of Phi Gamma Delta through salvaging, repackaging, and distributing leftover food from home sporting events in partnership with the West Alabama Food Bank, wrapped up its seventh year. Last year, the Fifth Quarter program saved 12,337 pounds of food, providing over 15,000 meals to those in the Tuscaloosa area. We are so privileged to have the opportunity to serve the local community and fight hunger in this way. PSI WOMEN HONORED Our members have been recognized for excellence on campus. We are excited to have five new Capstone Women: Katie Green '17, Parker Grogan '18, Victoria Morrison '18, Camryn Shields '18, and Leah Varnell '18. Congratulations to our sisters! FIRST PLACE IN ACADEMICS Over the spring semester, our chapter members have excelled in the areas of scholarship, philanthropy and service, and campus relations. In the area of scholarship, Psi Chapter achieved the top overall GPA within the Alabama Panhellenic community with a 3.68 GPA. Our new member class achieved the top overall new member GPA with a 3.78 GPA. Additionally, 134 members were named to the Presidents List, an honor for maintaining a 4.0 GPA in the fall 2018 semester. UNDERGRADUATES STAND UP TO HUNGER Psi Chapter held our annual week of service with events taking place every day of the week. We hosted Rise Against Hunger, a food packaging event at the sorority house, and packaged over 10,000 meals in two hours. Our members also made blankets for the children at Children's Hospital of Alabama and volunteered their time at the West Alabama Food Bank. We ended the week by launching our first Fifth Quarter 5K. Our annual Parent's Weekend silent auction and the Fifth Quarter 5K raised over $20,000 in one weekend for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation! As the spring ends, we cannot believe another semester has flown by. We are so proud of our senior sisters and are excited to cheer them on in their next seasons. For the rest of us who will be returning in the fall, the best is yet to come!
