4A – Daily News – Saturday, May 29, 2010 Agriculture & farm The 7th Cook‚en in the Park Dutch Oven fund raiser for Blues for the Pool was held last Saturday, with delicious entries. This fundraiser is one of several by the com- mittee during the year. July 17 will be the 8th Annual Wine Tasting by the Pool, followed by the Fall Craft Faire, Sat- urday, Sept. 25. In April the Kay Webb Memorial Softball Tournament was held. For more than 70 years, the McGlynn Pool of Red Bluff has provided a safe place for local children to swim and have fun. The pool has been closed once, and due to current economic conditions they are unsure if the pool will open this year. The Blues for the Pool committee is inter- ested in maintaining the pool, and its mission is to provide a safe place to swim instead of the cold, swift Sacramento River. Last summer it donated $25,000 for operational costs to ensure the pool opened. As a non- profit entity, it has applied for grants, and will contin- ue to do so until its goal is achieved. Rebuilding McGlynn Pool is no easy task. Debbie Carlisi, direc- tor of Parks and Recre- ation, was pleased with the raised awareness for McGlynn Pool, and the number of people that came out on a cool, cloudy day to enjoy tasty Dutch Oven cook- ing. Don Mason was gen- eral chairman, and has competed in past years. We have enjoyed Mason and Joe Kittle’s Dutch Oven cooking at Ante- lope Creek Cattle Com- pany brandings. According to NRCS District Conservationist Larry Branham, now is the time for landowners and produc- ers who have considered applying for CSP to get signed up and submit documentation. USDA has announced the national cutoff date for CSP is June 11, which requires landowners submit applications quickly. "If you've heard about the new CSP and talked with other local producers or read about others involved with it, now Is the time to get your conservation operation on the list of those recognized for a quality conservation commitment," Branham said. It's important that you get your application and paperwork submitted so you can be part of the 2010 CSP ranking period and funding cycle. CSP is a voluntary program that encourages produc- ers to maintain existing conservation activities and adopt additional practices on their operations. CSP is a valuable program because it recognizes ag producers and landowners who do the right things and it moves them forward as they add new resource pro- tection practices on their land. While CSP applications are accepted on a continu- ous basis, only applications received by the national cutoff date of June 11 will be considered for funding in fiscal year 2010.
