AVC Continues to Create Unique Housing Experience A s one of the most unique and historic Fraternity houses at CU, the Colorado Alpha Chapter House has offered a pre- mier living and learning experience young men can't find anywhere else in Boulder for nearly 100 years. Living in the Chapter House today has many benefits to enhance members' col- lege experience socially and intellectually while staying affordable. Amenities Above the Rest Among the many benefits of living in the Chap- ter House are the home's amenities. The under- graduate brothers enjoy spending their time in over 8,000 square feet of common space, their full-sized pool table in the foyer, an enclosed side yard with a grill, and hi-speed internet and cable. In addition to the spaces for our members to create stronger bonds of brotherhood, the Chapter House supplies space for our brothers to focus on their academics. To support their academic success, the Kent Hick- man '61 study room is equipped with a conference table and printer. We are focused on creating spaces for our brothers to be successful and we are determined to create a safe, healthy, and environmentally-friendly home. We Now Have Solar Panels The city of Boulder required all rental homes to transition to a minimum standard of energy efficiency as of January 2019. The "Smart Regs" pro- gram was first started several years ago and is now a reality. This was no easy task for our Chapter House due to its old age. However, after much consideration and after obtaining bids for the re- placement of our steam boiler, the AVC found another solution: solar pan- els. We recently installed six modest 2.13kW photovoltaic solar panels on the roof. The solar panels allow us to be compliant with Boulder's new requirements and offset our energy usage. While we discussed installing a larger PV system, budget constraints have limited our scope of options. But, we can add more panels in the future, as the solar infrastructure is already complete. Many of us have lived in this very house and some of us have children the same age as these young men. Our AVC Board continues to ensure all our members have a memorable time at Colorado Alpha. Focused on Our Members In accordance with the new city ordinance, Colorado Alpha added solar panels to the roof to become more energy efficient.
