I
want to thank you all for your understanding as the difficult decision
was made to move our spring meeting. Our main priority is the safety
and well-being of our brothers and their families and the travel condi-
tions were concerning enough to make the call to postpone. We know many
of you had to change your plans on short notice, but we hope you under-
stand and were able to join us in March or are able to attend the meeting
this fall on October 19.
When I took the position of association president last fall, I asked myself
whether I thought that I would have enough time to make a difference in
the alumni association and the chapter. What I have come to realize is that
there was an amazing team already in place—they just needed more willing
individuals to share the load. e lifeblood of any non-profit organization
is volunteers and the donation of time, but what a lot of us fail to realize is
how a little contribution of time spread across many volunteers can quickly
add up. I'd like to encourage anyone interested in getting involved, even if
you don't have much time, to reach out and let us know. We'll be happy to
find a way for you to contribute with time you have to spare.
With the time that I have to contribute, I've decided to focus on connections.
Whether it's fostering new connections or rebuilding lost connections, I'd
like to hand the position off to the next president with an established net-
work of connected members and alumni ready to be involved. e question
I'd like to pose to all of you who have taken the time to read this newsletter
is, how would you like to connect? How would you like to connect with
current members, brothers you lost touch with, and the chapter?
Over the years, the alumni association has offered suggestions, but rather
than continue to tell you our ideas, we'd like you to share your ideas with
us. You can reach out to me with your thoughts and ideas and help shape
alumni engagement going forward. You can connect with me at the new
association president email: fhwsuassocpresident@gmail.com.
As part of my goal to connect I'd like to extend my first challenge: Reach
out, with a message, text, call, or email, to one brother you haven't talked to
in a while and catch up.
I will also be looking for volunteers to help us find lost brothers in the fu-
ture. If you'd be interested in helping us find brothers you went to school
with, please let me know.
