Saturday, February 23, 2013 ��� Daily News Obituaries NILS ROEHNE July 30, 1945 - February 15, 2013 Nils RoehneLoving family man Nils Roehne, 67, of Longview was born July 30, 1945, in Stange, Norway, and died Feb. 15, 2013, at St. John Medical Center.Nils earned a bachelor���s degree in chemical engineering from Oregon State University. He moved to the local area from California and worked as a chemical engineer at the Georgia Pacific mill until 2012. He enjoyed cross-country skiing and was an active member of the Lions Club in Red Bluff, Calif., serving in numerous offices and was a member of the Sons of Norway.Nils is survived by his wife, Majean Roehne at home; two daughters, Ellen Roehne of Modesto, Calif., and Berit Grandi of Sandy, Ore.; three grandchildren, Avery Cloward and Flynn Cloward, both of Modesto and Marco Grandi of Sandy, Ore.; two sons-inlaw, Chris Cloward of Modesto and Jeff Grandi-Hoover of Sandy; his mother, Ragna Helseth in Norway; and four siblings, Knut Rohne, Ola Rohne, Lise Helgesen and Per Helseth, all in Norway.He was preceded in death by his father, Ola Rohne.A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Longview Presbyterian Church.Memorial contributions may be made to the Longview Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1613, Longview, WA 98632. Arrangements are by Columbia Funeral Service. KEITH B MEENTS October 18, 1925 - February 19, 2013 Keith B. Meents, 87 of Corning passed away on February 19, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children. Keith was born on October 18, 1925 near Guide Rock, Nebraska to Carl and Edna Carpenter Meents. He lived on various farms in Webster County Nebraska. He was an outstanding athlete at Eckley High School and graduated in 1944 as the salutatorian of his class. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations. Upon his discharge, he farmed in Nebraska until 1951 when he and his family moved to Corning. In June of 1952 he married Betty Barton of Blue Hill, Nebraska at El Camino Methodist Church. He took up dairy farming southwest of Corning and ran the dairy until 1988. He continued to farm the rest of his life alongside his son until the last few months of his life. He was a longtime member of the Corning First United Methodist Church where he served in many church offices. Keith is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty, his daughter and her husband; Susan and Korby Olson of Middletown, CA, his son and wife; Douglas and Deborah Meents of Corning. He is survived by his two grandsons; Erick Olson and Metthew Meents, his brother; Darrell of Corning, his sister-in-law; Sylvia of Corning, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Loren and his sister Ila Jeane Lepp. Services will be held as follows viewing on Monday, February 25, from 4-6 at Hall Brothers Corning Mortuary. She was a long standing member of the community where she worked as a beautician for over 50 years. She was also a founding member of the Red Bluff Junior Round-Up and served on the Board of Directors for over 40 years. She loved her family and friends and always supported promoting the youth in our community and the Western way of life. She is survived by her son Jim DiDio, her daughter Robin DiDio, her grandchildren Haley DiDio, Megan DiDio, Molly Hayes, Carly Cripe and her great grandchildren Gracelyn Hayes and Austin Hayes. Jack graduated from Greentown High School in 1943. Later that year, he entered the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. he served from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as an Agricultural Engineer. He worked 37 years for the U.S. government in the Department of Agriculture with Soil Conservation Service. After retirement, he was a private consultant and also did irrigation systems for many people. He attended St. Paul���s Lutheran Church in Red Bluff for more than 20 years. He made mission trips to China and Alaska. He belonged to the National Association Retired Federal Employees. He was the leader of non-denominational Christian singles group. He always greeted people with a firm handshake and a smile. He is survived by three sisters; Barbara Allen, JoAnn Hoff, and Mary Feiser, two sons; Steven (Lyn) and Paul (Patti), four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three step grandchildren, and nine step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and his special friend Lita Olberg. Members will vote on supporting the Drug Free Community Grant proposal and serving as the local Coalition for this grant. The partnership is a collaborative effort among various organizations and individuals to improve the health and well being of Tehama County. Its vision is to develop a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing the broader determinants of population health: thus redefining the concept of health to include not only physical and mental health but also education, economy, safety, transportation, recreation and other aspects mat influence our quality of life. Bushey confirmed that Madrigal was the officer shot in the Dec. 2, 2008, incident on Reno Avenue in the Gerber area. During the initial shooting, that led to an eight-hour standoff, Madrigal was shot in the leg and pinned down in a hail of gunfire during an exchange that hit the CHP unit at least a dozen times and a Tehama County Sheriff���s Department unit about 15 times, according to a Daily News article from 2008. Work will occur primarily along Simpson Road between Blatchley and Freeman Schoolhouse roads in west Corning. Traffic controls will be minimal along the rural road but necessary at times so crews can work safely. PG&E crews will generally work between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays, except holidays. He also was recognized for a Sept. 24 incident in which he investigated a theft from Union Pacific involving stolen fencing that resulted in a search warrant for the fencing and illegal narcotics. The remaining commendations were given for an incident involving a violent person who was threatening people with a knife, Nanfito said. Good Conduct ribbons are given for a three-year consecutive period of faithful service with no disciplinary actions taken or preventable collisions, he said.
