www.texaspike.com 4 Beta Mu Nears 100-Year Anniversary on UT Campus Chapter Wins Sixth Consecutive Orians Chapter Excellence Award T exas Pikes are enjoying a productive 2018-19 academic year filled with brotherhood, service and accomplishment. 2019 is Beta Mu's 99th year on the University of Texas campus, and the internation- al fraternity's 150th anniversary celebration in 2018 remains fresh in our memories. Beta Mu Chapter was pleased to welcome 33 new mem- bers to Pike in the fall and our spring new member class numbers four brothers. At Pike's 150th Con- vention in Richmond in July 2018, our chapter received numerous awards, including the Orians Chapter Excellence Award—for the sixth suc- cessive year—given to only 20 top performing national chapters, Pike Scholarship Award, and Pike University awards. Our Alumni Advisory Board was recognized as one of the top 20 na- tional operating boards for the sixth consecutive year. We look forward to additional recognition of our high performance at the upcoming summer 2019 Pike Academy in Memphis. Pike's academic record continues to excel with an active member cumulative GPA of 3.23 (spring 2018 university re- cords). is ties us with six fellow UT fraternities in the 3.2+ range for a 10th-place ranking of the 25 UT fraternities. We proudly engage in community service projects in Austin and on e 40 Acres. is past school year we hosted a pancake supper benefiting Austin's Safe Alliance with the Chi Omega Sorority, a fundraising pizza dinner benefiting an Austin first responder-related foundation, and Autism Speaks with the AXD Sorori- ty. We also volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank, a Boy Scout cor- porate skeet shoot fundraiser, helped raise money through the Texas IFC's Movember men's cancer research project, and Round Up Weekend, which benefited the B+Positive Foundation for pediatric cancer research. Spring semester kicked off with our always fun winter-themed Pikes Peak party, and our March Texas Roundup weekend party was blast. Our Moms (April) and Dads Clubs (March) held their own fun weekends with us in Austin and we look forward to spring formal and late May graduations for 25 seniors to close out the semester. e Beta Mu alumni capital campaign contin- ues to progress with $4.3 million in commit- ments toward a $5 million goal that should be reached by mid-year 2019. We are very pleased that the new Pike house construction will begin in June, and plans are underway for temporary quarters to continue the Pike brotherhood and activities during the year of construction. We are grateful to the many Beta Mu alumni who are making the Centennial Campaign for Beta Mu and the new chap- ter house a reality. We look forward to the June 1 "farewell to the house" event and hope to see our families and alumni at 2400 Leon for the celebration. In 2019, Beta Mu celebrates its 99th year of continuous operation at the University of Texas. ere has never been a time to have more pride in being an active or alumnus of Pi Kappa Alpha. We encourage Pikes, parents and friends to visit when in Austin.
