AlwAys Anchored Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Gamma • University of Arkansas • Spring 2019 I t's a great time to be an Alpha Omega and the excitement at Arkansas is palpable. We are pleased to announce that we have exceeded our campaign goal of $2 million. This is a tremendous feat and would not have been possible without the generous support of our alumnae. Construction Update: On Time, On Budget We are really getting into the meat of the project now. Sheetrock is nearly complete, exterior trim installation has begun, masonry is more than 90 percent complete and interior trim has just begun. Kitchen equipment has started arriving. Big changes will start taking place over the next few weeks as grading of the lot will begin on the west courtyard and the utilities currently on poles down Maple Street will be rerouted underground. Dedication Set for September Please save the date to come see our beautiful chapter house, which will officially be open to the public during the weekend of September 20-22, 2019. An Eventbrite website will be set up soon and will be the primary tool to communicate plans. Attendees will be required to register through the website in order to attend events. The website will be published in the next mailing in early summer and posted via various social media pages in advance of the mailing. We expect large crowds and we must manage flow so everyone can enjoy our new facility safely. Please see page 6 for more information and a tentative schedule of events. Access Restricted Until Dedication We are so excited to host alumnae when the chapter house is completed. However, we will not be hosting any alumnae until the dedication in September. Everyone is so excited to see the house come alive over the summer. Alumnae will be tempted to drop by the construction site as the fence comes down later this spring. Or maybe alumnae will be tempted to drop in unexpectedly to "help" during work week and recruitment or maybe even drop by during one of the early football games. Please save yourself some frustration. Access to the house will be extremely restricted until dedication weekend. There will be a process for alumnae to be involved in work week. Please watch social media and email through your alumnae groups for information over the summer. The advisory team and collegians will be focused on learning how to use the new house for recruitment. We want to give everyone time to acclimate to the new surroundings before hosting alumnae as they should be hosted. The house director, collegians and advisory team will be turning people away if needed. Please respect the process until the dedication. Alpha Omega House Director Search Underway As you read this, it may be that final interviews have occurred, and a House Director has been chosen to manage our new chapter house. What most of us remember as a house mom has evolved quite a bit since we graduated. Women in this role now bear the title of House Director, which reflects the very nature of their responsibility. Today's house director must be a Jill-of-all-trades. The house director is primarily a property manager. Imagine coordinating the menus and deliveries of food for 400 women, and proactively coordinating with the kitchen management staff to pull off a seated dinner for 400. She will ensure that services such as security, cleaning, lawn maintenance, etc., occurs as contracted. She will work with the state-of-the- art technology and systems in terms of security, lighting, heating and air conditioning and must be adept at knowing how to control them and how to troubleshoot. She must ensure that a property more than 30,000 square feet is well maintained and not abused by its residents. She must enforce the standing rules of the chapter as they relate to the use of the house. This is not a job for just anyone. They must be extremely organized, adaptable to Alpha Omega Chapter House Takes Shape With More Than $2 Million Committed, Plan to Celebrate with Us This Fall Anchored in Tradition, Building Our Future (Continued on page 3)
