The Spartans (16-8) downed the Wolves 4443 in both teams season closers on Feb. 14 in thrilling fashion. SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS NBA TRADE DEADLINE CBA looms over talks Source: Rockets trade with Kings, Suns HOUSTON (AP) A person familiar with the situation says the Houston Rockets have reached separate agreements on trades that will send Patrick Patterson, Cole Aldrich and Toney Douglas to Sacramento and Marcus Morris to Phoenix. The Rockets will receive Thomas Robinson, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt from the Kings, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced and was still pending league approval. In the other deal, the person said the Rockets will receive a future second-round pick from the Suns in exchange for Morris, who will join his twin brother, Markieff, on the Phoenix roster. Giants Lopez out with bruised wrist SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) San Francisco left-hander Javier Lopez will miss up to a week after a warmup pitch hit him on the top of his left hand during practice. Lopez, who was catching for fellow left-hander Madison Bumgarner at the time, showed off the injury Wednesday, two days after the injury. The seams of the baseball were clearly visible on his hand. Giants manager Bruce Bochy was not too concerned about it and did not think it will put Lopez behind schedule. By JON KRAWCZYNSKI were always together, Valdez said. They pushed one another and even the guys on the bench were pushing the team to get better. They played like a family and they all played hard. The atmosphere, he says, is the same this spring training. Even being here a few days I feel comfortable, he said. Everybody has been good to me and theres a lot of mutual respect. Valdez produced his two best seasons with the Phillies in 201011, where he earned significant playing time and got more than 300 at-bats each year. Philadelphia used him at shortstop and second base. He also saw time at third and even ended up on the mound getting a win with a scoreless inning. AP Basketball Writer Trade deadline week used to be the busiest of the NBA season, with team executives making deals at a frenzied pace as buyers tried to load up for a playoff run and sellers tried to unload onerous contracts to give them some flexibility for the next season. Something different appears to be taking place this time around. Theres been plenty of talk, but very little action so far with the deadline looming at 3 p.m. Eastern time today The big moves that were the hallmarks of trade deadlines past could still be coming. But if they dont, it could be because teams across the league are bracing for a much harsher economic reality starting next season. The Super Team era could be over. The new collective bargaining agreement that was born out of last years lockout will impose much stiffer penalties for teams that exceed the salary cap. (AP) Hoping to earn a job with the San Francisco Giants, infielder Wilson Valdez is with his 12th big league organization. Freddie Sanchez and Ryan Theriot no longer are with the Giants, and the 34-year-old Valdez hopes to beat out 28-year-old Tony Abreu and 31-year-old Kensuke Tanaka for a roster spot with the World Series champions. Valdez has played for seven major league teams. Hes been traded six times, released six times and spent a year in Japan. Ive got to show them what I can bring, Valdez said. I just want to play hard and play smart. In 439 major league games, Valdez has a .981 fielding percentage, including .990 at second base. He has a .236 batting average with six home runs and 107 RBIs. Everybody wants a chance to play, Valdez said. The more you play, the better you can be. Ill continue to do my best and hope for an opportunity. His versatility could work in his favor. Valdez also has appeared in the outfield in addition to playing three infield spots. Yes, it is kind of hard when you dont have a set spot, Valdez said. For me, Im going to find a spot, get there, work hard and prove myself to everybody. Im always working with the mindset of preparing to help the team. Hes with the team he played against during each of San Franciscos World Series title seasons. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency had told Armstrong he would have to reveal all knows about doping in cycling a process officials expected would take several days if he wanted to reduce his lifetime ban from sports. Wednesday was the latest deadline for Armstrong to decide on USADAs offer. After negotiating with the agency for two months, he refused. Armstrong attorney Tim Herman said the cyclist will not participate in USADAs efforts to selectively conduct American prosecutions that only demonize selected individuals while failing to address the 95 percent of the sport over which USADA has no jurisdiction. USADA chief executive Travis Tygart said the agency had expected Armstrong would agree to talk and would be moving on without him. Over the last few weeks he has led us to believe that he wanted to come in and assist USADA, but was worried of potential criminal and civil liability if he did so, Tygart said. Today we learned from the media that Mr. Armstrong is choosing not to come in and be truthful and that he will not take the opportunity to work toward righting his wrongs in sport. Herman has said Armstrong is willing to participate in an international effort to clean up cycling, an effort that has broken down in spats between the International Cycling Union, the sports governing body, and the World Anti-Doping Agency. He will be the first man through the door, and once inside will answer every question, at an international tribunal formed to comprehensively address pro cycling, an almost exclusively European sport, Herman said.
