Donnelly '07 Brian J. Gengler '08 F or Rob Hanson '89, his ties to Sigma Chi run deep. A legacy via his stepfather, uncle, and cousin (and then followed by his step-brother), Rob is proud to have maintained the Sigma Chi family tradition. After being invited to a recruitment event by Kevin Lilly '87, Rob fell in love with the brothers of Sigma Chi. "I obviously had a bias because I was a legacy," Rob said. "But the chapter impressed on its own mer- it with the men, strong academics, quality athletics, and a great chapter house." While living in the house, Rob made many great memories and gained lifelong friendships. "I'd like to do the whole thing over again from start to fin- ish," Rob said. "Pledgeship wasn't my favorite, but I would not have learned about Sigma Chi if I hadn't gone through it. I lived in the house with the best group of guys that you could imagine, and some of my pledge brothers are still my best friends today." Rob's four years living in the house amongst friends and leaders that became his brothers was THE for- mative experience of his adulthood and the reason that he decided to give back to the chapter through supporting the capital campaign, A New Era. Rob hopes that Delta Upsilon can continue to be a positive environ- ment for future undergraduates at K-State, and that they can expe- rience what he did. "I didn't realize that moving from my parent's house straight into a fraternity would have such a positive impact on my life," Rob said. "I don't want that experience to disappear from the K-State campus." Even though he lives in Atlanta and doesn't get to visit the chapter house often, Rob was thrilled to be able to help the campaign through his donation. He says that having a new house on campus will help keep Sigma Chi competitive by attracting the best students and athletes. To brothers who have been hesitant to donate, Rob had this to say: "Where would you be if you hadn't had your Sigma Chi ex- perience at K-State?" He felt that paying it forward was the least that he could do for everything that Sig- ma Chi did for him. "Being a part of Sigma Chi was the genesis of the rest of my adulthood," Rob said. Outside of his support of Sigma Chi, Rob works Becton Dickinson, a medical device company, where he is a Senior Vice President and General Manager. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and they have two daughters and three sons. Rob can be reached at rob.hanson@bd.com. Sigma Chi—The Genesis to Adulthood Rob J.
