THE CAL SIG ALPHA BETA CHAPTER OF SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY Spring 2019 Alpha Beta Housing Corporation Board Maps Out Goals Building Committee Works with Architect on Chapter House Updates (Continued on page 2) I t's hard to believe how fast this school year has flown by and the sum- mer months are just around the corner. I'm pleased to share with you some of the exciting developments with Sigma Chi! Alpha Beta Housing Corporation Board (Alpha Beta Hall) members and undergraduates from the chapter gathered in October for our annual meet- ing. The following items are our top focus for the remainder of 2019: 1. Strengthening financial sustainability 2. Increased maintenance 3. Exploring major capital improvements, including roof replacement and Wi-Fi upgrade 4. Broadening the breadth and depth of our board membership When we come together as alumni, we have the unique opportunity to reconnect as brothers and set new goals for the upcoming year. If you're in- terested in getting involved with the Alpha Beta House Corporation, please reach out to me. We would love to have you! We have an amazing group of volunteers who came together to form our building committee. These men are evaluating our Sigma Chi needs and next steps to maintain and improve our fraternity facility at UC Berkeley. With a house as old as ours, there are always things in need of repair. The building committee is excited to share that it is working with an architect to develop schematic updates to our facility. These plans are nearly complete, and we can't wait to share our vision for Alpha Beta with everyone in the near future. It is an exciting time to be engaged with Alpha Beta Hall Corporation. As always, we are grateful for your support and welcome your input and involvement. In Hoc, Jeff Bordalampe '77 Housing Corporation President Jeff@tcialuminum.com D uring his stellar 17-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers and in college at the University of California- Berkeley, Ed White '69 gained the respect of hundreds of team- mates and opponents. While football provided a plethora of friendships for Ed, there was another team that he joined at Cal that he is still proud to be a part of to this day. When Ed lived in Deutsch Hall during his freshman year with the rest of the football team, he was drawn to the Sigma Chi house that was across the street. Ed eventually pledged Alpha Beta and has sustained lifelong friend- ships with several of his brothers. "The Sigma Chi house is a very significant part of my life. I was in there with a group of guys that are pretty phenomenal, from John Garamendi '66 to Ed Crane '68," Ed said. "They're on opposite ends of the spectrum. In fact, we're having a debate over that right now amongst our 35-40 guys that are chiming in. That's what so beautiful about our group. We have such a diverse and fantastic group of guys."
