DDD page 3 A s many can attest, sorority recruitment is a very stressful and emotional experience. For Erin Hays McCurry '97, that feeling vanished once she met the women of Tri Delta. They quick- ly helped her overcome any anxiety by welcoming her wholeheartedly. Tri Delta allowed Erin to grow during her time at Mizzou. She was given many opportunities to be a leader among her peers, filling roles of philanthro- py and recruitment chairman. "I'm from a family of boys (I have two brothers), so living with so many young women was a unique experience in itself, but provided quite a huge learning experi- ence as well. Taking on leadership roles in Delta Xi was a huge deal for me. To be part of a group that brings women together to collaborate toward making change was one of the biggest takeaways." From the start, Tri Delta helped Erin make a large university like Mizzou seem far more manageable. Finding your niche among such a large student population can be difficult, but Erin is extremely grateful for MU's Greek system, which allowed her to meet a group of young women who shared similar interests and gave her lifelong friends. "I think the Greek system is such an important aspect of college life," Erin said. "It allows you so many ways to get involved and to become connected with countless people. Even today, the networking possibilities continue. I'm still connecting with new Tri Deltas from Mizzou and even other parts of the country. It's a very important part of being a member of our sisterhood." Erin and her husband, Kyle, moved back to Co- lumbia from Kansas City about four years ago. Not long after, she thought it was time to get re- acquainted with Delta Xi and has been involved with the chapter ever since. She helps with the new member team and advises the new member educator. "It's fun to help these young women lead new members who may have felt as I did as a freshman—a little overwhelmed or anxious. It's important that Delta Xi continues recruiting strong women who are focused on academics and lead- ership. Things will always change and evolve as they need to, but having strong leaders is always important, and the same can be said for strong alumnae support, too." Erin and Kyle have three sons: Evan, Ben, and Will. When she's not volunteering with Tri Delta or at her sons' school, Erin enjoys reading and exercise. She also remains close with some of her Delta Xi sisters, taking annual trips with a small group. They and their husbands are planning a trip to the New Orleans Jazz Festival later this summer.
