Main St. Quartzsite Open Tues. thru Sat. 9-3 928-927-4223 By Jackie Deal "On the road again." Yes, I'm off; fi rst a stop for gas, a cup of coffee and a copy of the Desert Messenger. Let's see, gas on the credit card and the cup of coffee: change will do. Change? Mon- ey? Purse? Would you believe I left home without my purse? Thanks to neighbors who checked on me; "Electric off? Gas off? Water off?" Why didn't they check to see if I had my purse? It was only a few minutes trip back to unlock and rescue my purse and I really and truly was on my way. The trip north on 95 is so beautiful; the mountain colors range from cream through browns, purple and black. To begin with they are jagged and rough with glimpses of the Colorado and then the Bill Williams River. (Wouldn't you like to have a river named after you?) Then the mountains settle down to more gentle rounded tops, wind and rain have sculpted them. Eventu- ally there's black obsidian fl ung everywhere like a giant child had been angry and thrown his "sand" out of the sand box. Have I ever mentioned I hate Barstow? (Sorry, Barstow!) I never can fi nd the motel I want and so I have to go on. Finally I end up in Mohave. Now I've stopped in Mohave before; I know it specializes in wind and more wind and trains and more trains. The trains run all night and I have to laugh; sometimes they toot ever so softly at the crossing, and there must be a multitude of crossings. And other times they "wooo-oo-oo" long and loud. It's either laugh or cry and I prefer to laugh. I always get sleepy in the afternoon when I'm driving alone and sleepy driving is not the best. So an early stop is necessary. Stay tuned for more adventures! Travelogue 2019 Motorists will soon be able to access several popular outdoor attractions in the state when the Arizona Department of Transportation reopens portions of several highways in April and May. State highways scheduled to reopen are: • State Route 261 between Eagar and Big Lake in the White Mountains – April 15 • State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake in the White Mountains – April 15 • State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake in the White Mountains – April 15 • State Route 366 that leads to Mount Graham in southeastern Arizona – April 15 • State Route 67 that leads to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon – mid-May ADOT closes most of these scenic roadways annually as part of the agency's winter shutdown schedule due to the signifi cant amounts of snowfall these regions typically receive. Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, please call the ADOT Bilingual Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or go to azdot.gov/contact and select Projects from the drop-down menu.
