It is extremely competitive to even be in the show as they only choose five groups to perform out of the original nine. This year we were partnered with Alpha Chi Omega sorority for our show, "Cheer Up." We not only participated in the show, but were thrilled to come home with three awards. It's been a great year at Xi, and we can't wait for what's next. As always, our alumnae are welcome to stop by whenever they're in Lawrence. Sigma Kappa partnered with Alpha Chi Omega for this year's Rock Chalk Revue show titled Cheer Up. A large university like KU can be quite intimidating to incoming freshmen. The campus is huge, there are so many people, and a newfound independence is both exciting and overwhelming. For Dana Aks Fahey '06, finding a close-knit community among a sea of new faces was her top priority. She found that, and more, at Sigma Kappa. Her initial meeting with Xi members was welcoming and warm. There was a comfort exuded by the house and drew her in. It also helped that conversations she had with her soon-to-be sisters were effortless and flowed naturally. It was clear that everybody truly enjoyed being at Xi. "Sigma Kappa was such a huge part of my college experience," Dana said, "and like most women I grew and matured a lot during college. I owe a lot of that growth to the friendships I created through Xi Chapter. My best friend, Ellen Sheftel Fales '08, is my pledge daughter, and godmother to my son. I even met my husband through Sigma Kappa!" In 2009, Dana was director for Rock Chalk Revue, which was an exciting time for Sigma Kappa as they hadn't been chosen to participate in Rock Chalk Revue in years. "We were paired with Theta Chi fraternity, and as the director I was able to choose two guys to be my dance partners during the show. I chose Mike Fahey and John Fales, who later became my husband and my best friends' husband, respectively." With Greek life being portrayed as it is in the media, those who had extremely positive experiences help put it into perspective and paint a more accurate picture. "I think Greek life helps provide structure for people entering college, especially a large college where it's easy to feel like a small fish in a big pond. Greek life can help its members feel like they have a home away from home, like it did for me. I hope Sigma Kappa can continue to be a positive influence on its members as they navigate through college, providing them with lasting friendships and opportunities to grow as women." Dana is an attorney at the law firm Manson Karbank McClaflin, which specializes in family law—divorces, custody disputes, etc. Prior to that, she was the criminal judicial research attorney for the criminal law judges at Johnson County, Kansas District Court. She is a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, and is president of the Young Lawyers Section of the Johnson County Bar Association. Dana and her husband, Mike, live in Overland Park, Kansas, and have one son, Cameron, who was born in December. As a new mom, one of her favorite things to do is spend time at home with the family and their dog, Granger. She also loves to travel, ski, and go to happy hours with her girlfriends.
