Decatur Barbecue e annual Decatur Barbecue is held in Veteran's Park and takes place on the first Saturday of August each year. e barbecue is packed full of activities for everyone to enjoy, including a car show, cra booths, fun run, Miss Decatur Barbecue pageant, chicken dinners, parade, tiny tots contest, local talent performers, a firework show, and more. e day-long event is organized by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and serves as an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy a day filled with fun and food. Decatur Depot e Decatur Depot was constructed in the early 1900's and is one of the last standing Kansas City Southern train depots. It has since been converted into a museum. e depot was built as a result of the booming growth the town saw because of the new railroad, as well as their increase in processing and shipping locally- grown apples. e train depot is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places Wyatt Hopkins Poker Run e Wyatt Hopkins Memorial Poker Run has become an annual event in Decatur through recent years and will be celebrating its tenth annual event this year. e event is held in honor of Wyatt Hopkins and is dedicated to raising money to help children and families facing life-threatening illnesses.
