MARCH 27-APRIL 2, 2019 UCW 31 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Citizens Asked to Take Biking Survey The City of Fayetteville was awarded a grant by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to complete a City-wide Bicycle Plan to guide the planning and implementation of bicycle improvement projects. The overall goal of a bicycle plan is to assess current conditions and recommend policies and programs to make biking more desirable. The finished plan will recognize the crucial role that biking plays in creating an attractive, accessible, safe and healthy community. In the end, the City will be presented with a plan that has prioritized recommendations for policies, programs and projects that will improve the bikeability (and health, economy and mobility) of our community. City officials are interested in hearing from citizens on biking in the City. Please visit www.bikingfayetteville.com to complete a survey and share information about how to improve cycling in Fayetteville. New Traffic Signal at Purdue and Breezewood The City is nearing completion of the new traffic signal at the intersection of Breezewood Avenue at Purdue Drive near the Chick-fil-A on Raeford Road. The signal was activated in a flashing mode and the light became fully activated on March 22. The flashing mode was necessary while final pavement markings were completed and to advise motorists of the change in the traffic pattern at the intersection. The new traffic signal was a project in the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and includes pedestrian traffic signals and crosswalks on all four approaches, improving the safety and operation for all users of the intersection. SEGRA Stadium Unveiled at Fayetteville Fans First Look SEGRA Stadium, the new downtown home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, will be unveiled to the public for the first time on Saturday, April 13 from Noon to 3 p.m. during an event dubbed Fayetteville Fans First Look. The name means exactly what it says: Fans will get an inside peek of the stadium and get an early start on all the fun that will take place there. Free and open to the public, Fayetteville Fans First Look will give residents the chance to check out the stadium's amenities, including a bar behind the seats, multiple concession areas and restrooms, multiple types of seating, an outfield bar with 30 beers on tap, a patio with foosball and cornhole, a children's play area, a grassy berm seating area where you can lounge on a blanket or lawn chair, club/luxury suites and seating and the Bird's Nest Team Store, where people can purchase their exclusive Fayetteville Woodpeckers merchandise. Individual game, season, half season and partial season tickets will also be for sale on the day of the event. "We invite Fayetteville residents out for this momentous occasion, which is historic for Fayetteville," City Manager Doug Hewett said. "We are so excited to welcome the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and Houston Astros organizations to our city and we are thankful and honored to be welcomed into the Houston Astros family. The Astros, who won the 2017 World Series, are a great organization that will bring future Major League Baseball talent to SEGRA Stadium and we are thrilled to be part of that, as well as the other events that will be held in our downtown." The Woodpeckers' first game in the stadium is Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. against the Carolina Mudcats and other games are scheduled for Friday through Sunday, April 19-21.
