2 BETA MU LINK Beta Keeps Its Head Above Water Amid Pipe Burst O n January 31, the house suffered damage as a result of a water pipe bursting in the sec- ond-floor sprinkler system. e second-floor hallway floors filled with water, which leaked through the Big Room ceiling and onto the Big Room floor. e damage was minimized due to quick reaction by Maintenance Manager Greg Smith, the local fire department, and others. e sprinkler system has been repaired (and better insulated), and a restoration company had large fans and dehumidifiers for over a week to remove the moisture. e Big Room ceiling will need to have the drywall seams repaired and repainted at some point, but it is safe for now. Additionally, an insurance claim was submitted. e undergraduates were inconvenienced, but handled it well and were not displaced from their living quarters.
