THETA CHI PAGE 3 A s we progress into Spring 2019, striving to achieve more than ever before, we first shall reflect upon our recent suc- cess in the past few months. The brothers suc- cessfully courted Kappa Delta for Homecoming and hosted four philanthropy events. In addition to this, we led two service projects, and excelled academically and in intramurals. Despite our re- cent successes, the brothers of Tau Chapter have intentions to continue to defy the standards of a college undergraduate. Academics is one of the main reasons why this fraternity's success continues to grow. We have many new initiatives in place that continue to in- crease our cumulative GPA. As James Wheeler '16, our current scholarship chairman, says, "Being top five in GPA across the IFC is an achievement, but we hold ourselves to a higher standard and still seek improvement. Our goal for this semester is to be in the top three, but our long-term goals are to be number one in GPA ranking." Moving forward, academics will con- tinue to be our number one priority along with philanthropies and our impact on the local com- munity following behind it. The highlight of our philanthropy success starts with our improvement in our annual G.I. Theta Chi event. In Fall 2018, we raised $4,200 for ac- tive members of the United Service Organiza- tion, an 80% increase from the year before. Sean Andros '17, our current philanthropy chairman, said, "Our efforts were amazing, but I know that we can improve brotherhood attendance. Be- yond raising money, attendance is important for multiple reasons. First off, you leave the event with a new perspective, but more importantly, our local impact shows our true colors and char- acter as a fraternity." Sean has expressed his devotion and passion for making this our best philanthropy year yet, and we are all confident in him and his abilities. The undergraduate brothers of Tau Chapter all agree that we had a very successful fall recruit- ment. Matt Gomez '18, vice president of re- cruitment, is confident in this new group. He has said, "The newest members of the recent pledge class will live up to Theta Chi values. They are young, ambitious, resolute men who will make tremendous impacts for the future of this frater- nity." We as a Chapter are very excited for the future of this fraternity. Tau ChapTer ranks in Top Five aCross iFC Throughout the university, our brotherhood has been making an impact by serving in many lead- ership roles. Within Florida Blue Key, Dakota Woll '12 recently finished his term as Florida Blue Key president, Jonathan Nickas '16 served as a 2018 Gator Growl associate produc- er, and Chris Nickas '16 and Andrew Geyer '15 were tapped as new members. Andrew Kelly '16 serves as SGP chairman and Jimmy Wheeler '16 serves as SGP comptroller. Several brothers also serve in Student Government, Stu- dent Senate, and as leaders in many student or- ganizations. Stephen Mack '14, Nate Johnson '16, and several other brothers won the first-ever national championship with Club Soccer. We are very proud of our brothers and their success and well-deserved recognition. In the past few months, sports have had positive impacts on the friendships and camaraderie of the brotherhood. We held an alumni event for the weekend of LSU vs. UF football. We were so thankful for brothers and many more whom we all look up to and appreciate for their commit- ments to this fraternity. Through the generations that have come before us, we can all find inspi- rations from their class, character, and devel- opment as men. We are always welcoming our alumni to come by and we are very thankful for their support and impact on the fraternity. The spring 2019 intramural season is underway, and we are off to a hot start. The fraternity bas- ketball team has started strong, led by John Gall '16, Matthew Johnson '16, and Tyson Dunn '17. Our racquetball team is also doing well, led by Jonathan Nickas '16 and James Wheeler '16. Soccer, softball, and sand volleyball are all starting in the upcoming weeks. Our last semester was very successful, filled with great philanthropy events, high academic honors, and growth in the brotherhood. From G.I. Theta Chi to alumni weekend, every brother has con- tributed and impacted this fraternity in a positive way. As we move forward and progress into our semester, we are confident in our new executive board to lead us to heights never seen before.
