By Brittany Smith NWA Democrat-Gazette e history of Lincoln dates all the way back to the 1800's and has undergone several name changes including; Starr Hill, Blackjack, and Georgetown, before Lincoln came to be. Since its inception, Lincoln has always been known for its production of apples, eventually gaining the nickname of Apple Capital of Arkansas. e Arkansas Black apple and Collins Red apple were both developed in Lincoln, and as a result of the abundant apple orchards in the town and its reputation for apple production, the popular Arkansas Apple Festival was established in 1975. Lincoln has a wide variety of outdoor amenities to offer its residents, several of which are frequented by visitors. e city has several parks and trails that have something for everyone to enjoy. ere are numerous opportunities for rock climbing, biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and even an overlook where visitors can spot bald eagles. ere is also a Town Garden and park that was designed to be a community garden for the city. e idea driving the garden is to give residents the chance to support local charities by growing and providing fresh produce. Although the Town Garden is still in its early stages, its continued development aims not only to provide for local organizations but to also give community residents a hands-on opportunity to get involved and experience growth in more ways than one.
