Ever wonder about Indian bedrock mortars? How were they made? How long have they exist- ed? If so, than join the Yuba Historical Society on the walk to find the answer to these questions and other details concerning the Maidu and Wintun Indians who visited the Sutter Buttes for countless generations. Chuck Krit- zon, old ways specialist on staff at the Maidu Interpre- tive Center in Roseville, will guide the group to several ancient encamp- ments within the Buttes. Chuck specializes in mak- ing tools used by Native Californians and will demonstrate his handy work, taking participants back to the time when pronghorns and grizzles roamed and condors soared through the ancient Middle Mountains. The price for this outing is $15 for YHS members and $25 for non-members; mem- berships begin at $15. Courtesy photo Guide Chuck Kritzon blows on a fire.
