Project Costs Being Fine-Tuned after Fire Marshal Visit e design work for the 276 High Street renovation project is progressing nicely. Meetings have occurred with the Middletown building department and Fire Marshal's office to establish project parameters covering items such as ADA compliance, emergency egress, and other code issues. e architect and engineers have completed their programming work and are finalizing different plan options based on these project parameters. e construction manager has completed the hazardous materials investigation of the building with his consultant. ose findings are incorporated into his report with a preliminary remediation budget. All these plans and reports are being used to develop a cost estimate for the project. e plans focus on different ways to incorporate female residents into the house in a safe, appealing environment, while also accommodating the needs of the DKE Gamma Phi Chapter. As of January, the next phase of the work is for the plans and estimates to be finalized and presented to the board for review. In the Bonds, Gary D. First, for those unaware, Herb Kelleher '53 has passed away at age 87. He was a great brother and champion of Gamma Phi. We mourn his loss but rejoice in his many accomplishments. Lawsuit to Pass Appeals Court On the lawsuit front, both sides have agreed to bypass the appellate court. e Connecticut Supreme Court has agreed to hear our case and provide a final judgment. We had hoped the legal process would've been settled by now as we have acquiesced to all the substantive demands purported to be important to the administration. It's unfortunate that the University and the Board of Trustees continue to spend precious resources, over $1.5 million to date in legal costs and awarded damages, as well as $4.5 million ($1.5 million/year for three years) in potential lost tuition the University could be garnering if the 30 beds at 276 High Street were used for undergraduate students—both men and women. As always, we stand ready at any time to have open discussions with the University to reinstate 276 High Street as University housing. As of this writing, they still refuse to talk to us. We believe the Supreme Court's decision will come sometime in the summer or fall. We are optimistic that with reasonable people presiding over the case, we will once again prevail. Capital Campaign Rings in New Year with New Momentum More Than $1 Million Raised in 2018 I n the first year of e Sesquicentennial Campaign: Securing the Future of Gamma Phi, it has been humbling to watch the loyalty and fellowship of Dekes come to life. Over the last 12 months we have grown from 70 to 146 in supporters and from $1,729,875 to $2,751,231 in commitments. We have welcomed new members into our rituals and have said sorrowful goodbyes to the brothers who have entered our Mystic Circle. While 2018 was a year of change for Gamma Phi, we find ourselves wishing for more change with the lawsuit. As KLC President Gary Breitbord '79 shared above, our case is now at the hands of the Connecticut Supreme Court with a decision timed for summer or fall. By bypassing the appellate court, we are hopeful that this state of unknown will soon be ending— and we want to be ready. KLC Project Leader Rico Peace '69 has diligently continued his work with the design and construction team, leading the board toward the next step of approving project costs. is is one more step in the direction of breaking ground on our renovations, and we ask for your consideration with donating. Raising $1 million in 12 months is outstanding. We are told this is above average for men's campaigns in their first year, though we are also pursuing an aggressive goal of $4 million. Brothers, in 2018 not only did we cross $2.7 million, we doubled our participation in e Sesquicentennial Campaign—what change will you help us make in 2019?
