P 16 D M Two of rock’s legendary voice at BlueWater one night - May 22nd PARKER, ARIZ. – BlueWater Resort & Casino proudly presents two of rock’s most legendary voices, STARSHIP starring MICKEY THOMAS and Spe- cial Guest TOTO’S BOBBY KIMBALL at the outdoor BlueWater Amphithe- ater Saturday May 22nd! Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled STAR- SHIP through the 80’s and 90’s. With his soulful and compelling vocals, Mickey has established himself as one of Rock Music’s recognizable stars. Mickey is currently celebrating his 30th anniversary with STARSHIP since he joined JEFFERSON STAR- SHIP as lead vocalist after the depar- ture of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Every STARSHIP album released has gone Gold, Platinum or Multi-Plati- num. Starship’s newest single “Get Out Again” is climbing the charts. Backed by the power of Mickey’s vocals, JEFFERSON STARSHIP immediately scored a #1 hit with “Jane”. With this new sound and powerful new vocals, the group was renamed STARSHIP And continued to record a new string of hits including “No Way Out”, “We Built This City”, “Sara” and received an Oscar Nomination for the #1 hit “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now” from the movie “MANNEQUIN”. Other top hit’s include: “Fine Your Way Back”, “Stranger”, “Laying It On The Line” and “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over” which became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987. TOTO’s Bobby Kimball came from the Louisiana area and had several bands that played clubs between an area from Phoenix, Arizona all the way to Florida. It was while playing in one of these bands that Bobby received a phone call that would change his life and career forever. Bobby received a call from a friend of his, John Smith, who played with Edgar Winter’s White Trash and was asked to sing with their band. After signing with CBS Records the band made one album, the band just couldn’t seem to get off the ground. However, dur- ing this period Bobby met three of the members of the band that would cata- pult his career into another categorical dimension. These players were David Paich, David Hungate and Jeff Por- caro; they had been playing with enor- mously successful band Boz Scaggs and were mainly responsible for hit’s like “Low Down” and “Lido Shuffle”. David and Jeff mapped out a plan for a new band the would set new records in the recording industry and the mu- sic community in general. That band was called TOTO after Dorothy’s little dog in the Wizard of Oz. The group embarked on a new sound that chal- lenged the abilities of even the finest of players and singers. The first TOTO album was nomi- nated at the Grammy’s as “Best New Group”. The first single “Hold The Line” made Bobby’s voice a signature of TOTO’s music and launched server- al hit’s thereafter, including songs like “I’ll Supply The Love”, “White Sister” “Make Believe”, “Africa” and of course “Rosanna”, the song on the TOTO IV album swept the 1983 Grammy Show. The TOTO IV album was nominated for no less that 9 Grammys and as a whole won a total of seven of these cat- egories. You don’t want to miss these two leg- endary voices together in one night!
