Minnesota Alpha and 42% feel that others might give back. This is a below-average
response compared to previous Pennington & Company studies.
When asked to share why women would support a capital campaign, interviewees
provided a few reasons. First, alumnae referenced a positive undergraduate
experiences and the strength of the chapter throughout the years. A 1950s alumna
said, "They are proud of the fact that Pi Phi has always remained strong. They
have never struggled to get members." Alumnae also mentioned that an alumna
will give if she is passionate about the project. A 1970s alumna said, "I think a lot
of people really identify with the house. It represents something." When asked if
members would give to Minnesota Alpha, one 1990s alumna stated, "I think if it
was for the right thing, [a project] all alumnae would be proud to support." Other
motivations to give included family ties to Minnesota Alpha and financial ability.
Alternatively, interviewed alumnae were asked to share why others might not
support a campaign. Some alumnae feel those that donated to the 2010 campaign
might be discouraged to make a stretch contribution to another campaign. One
1960s alumna said, "I think it's going to be hard because they just put a lot of
money into the annex." Other responses ranged from individual financial ability,
