Officers were sent to the area of the Tractor Supply parking lot, 249 S. Main St., for reports of a man down and they made contact with the boy who had a gunshot wound to his ankle, Sgt. Josiah Ferrin said. The boy, his 14-year-old brother and a group of teens were walking near Furniture Depot, 235 S. Main St., when the two men, both dressed in dark clothing, approached them. One of the men had a dark colored handgun, which he used to shoot the boy in the lower ankle in what appears, based on witness testimony, to be a gangrelated incident, Ferrin said. The two men, who were still at large early Saturday, fled the area on foot. The California Highway Patrol provided ground and air assistance along with help from Tehama County Sheriff's Homeless count deputies. The boy was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital where he was treated and released. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Red Bluff Police at 527-3131. Deronda Gail Harris was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for major nonlife threatening injuries, according to a California Highway Patrol release. Harris and her boyfriend, Gregory Dwayne Gross of Yuba City, had been traveling on Parkway Drive, north of Fourth Street, when Gross pulled his big rig over along the east curb, facing north, next to the Cottonwood Chevron Station. Gross told CHP officers he had helped Harris out of the semi and, 7 5 8 5 5 1 6 9 0 0 1 9 assuming she was walking into the Chevron to use the restroom, went a short distance before making a Uturn. As he turned the vehicle around, Gross found Harris, who appeared to have been run over by the right side tires of the tractor and trailer of the semi, badly injured on the roadside, the CHP release said. Harris appeared to have been behind the tractor's sleeper berth and in front of the rear axles on the right side of the trailer when she was hit, the release said. The Cottonwood Fire Department responded and assisted CHP in the incident. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the incident and no one was cited or arrested. ——— Julie Zeeb can be reached at 527-2153, extension 115 or jzeeb@redbluffdailynews. com. Residents willing to answer a few basic questions, such as where they stayed the previous night, how long they have been homeless, factors that led to their situation and sources of income, were given a bag with water and snacks as a thank you for participating.
