p. 3 Sigma Phi Epsilon TO CAMPUS EPSILON CHAPTER T he planning of a new Chapter House for Florida Epsilon is in the works, and one alumnus in par- ticular can't wait to see the finished product. Kyle Riva '77 fully understands the importance of a comfortable home, as he's built high-end apartment communities for 35-plus years. To ensure that the active and future members of Flori- da Epsilon have a home away from home, Kyle is call- ing upon fellow SigEp alumni to join him in giving to the campaign. "It's important for the alumni brothers to support the Chapter and support the active brothers in helping them build this new house," Kyle said. "When we were there, our house was more of an Animal House-type situation, where it was one of the lesser-maintained houses in terms of fraternity houses. I think it's exciting that we have the opportunity to give young people a nice, new facility that's modern and contemporary." Kyle has served as the CEO/president of Alexander Investments Interna- tional Inc. for the past three years after spending 27 years with Epoch Prop- erties—both of which are based in central Florida. One big perk of Kyle's current job is that he has been able to stay connected with several of his SigEp brothers in Florida. Kyle has made it a point not to limit himself to the Sunshine State on the business side of things, though. "Every day is different. I get to learn a lot about the various communities that we develop in and get to meet people in various locations," Kyle said. "We build in the sun coast states, so I build quite a bit in the Carolinas and Texas. The fun part of the business is the creative side and creating a place where people are wanting to live that's exciting and fun. The other part that's enjoyable is finding new markets and learning new cities." Finding a special home was crucial for Kyle when he was a freshman at Florida State. With FSU having 26,000-27,000 students on campus, Kyle liked that SigEp provided him a group of like-minded individuals before he branched out to make other friends. Some of Kyle's favorite SigEp memories include being success- ful at intramural sports and attending parties that were often organized by Dan Connelly '76, otherwise known as "Disco Dan." "Being a member of a fraternity really helped you social- ly during that period of adjustment as a freshman," Kyle said. "The older brothers were available and there to give you advice, guidance, and assistance. There was always something to do." While Kyle is excited for Florida Epsilon to have a new Chapter House, he wants to remind the undergraduates that their fraternity experience shouldn't just be limited to their time at Florida State. "Stay in touch with your fraternity brothers," Kyle said. "They're great business contacts to have throughout your career and they're happy to help you whenever they can. Feel free to call them and stay in touch with them and make yourself available when they call on you." You can reach Kyle at kriva@cfl.rr.com.
