In the early 1960s it was alive and well in Quartzsite. Then not too long ago it faded away. But now it's back! Monday and Wednes- days, 1-3 p.m. lessons at the Quartzsite Improve- ment Association (QIA.) Monday's lesson found 34 energetic, happy dancers: brand new ones learning the fi gures and "retreads" relearning them. At times we looked, so said Rick Utter the caller/instructor, "like Wal-Mart's parking lot". Yes, there were times when we didn't know our partner from our corner. But after two hours everyone was well on the way to mastering 10 or 12 fi gures. You might want to try it. If you can walk, know forward from backward, right from left; well, you've got it made. Rick Utter comes 90miles from Wickenburg just to instruct us and he's an expert at it: patient and very clear in his in- structions. At times laughter almost drowned out his singing but that's what it's all about. A way to have fun with happy people. You don't need a partner and you don't need fancy square dance clothes.
