26 www.DesertMessenger.com December 5, 2018 FROM PAGE 13 Road construction on US 60 between Wenden & Aguila The Arizona Department of Trans- portation (ADOT) in conjunction with the Federal Highway Adminis- tration is planning to make roadway and bridge improvements along a 23-mile stretch of US 60 between the communities of Wenden and Aguila. The improvements and re- pairs include: milling and replacing existing pavement, applying a chip- seal coat in various sections of the roadway, building up the roadway shoulder with pavement millings and replacing existing bridge bar- rier and guardrail. During construction, ADOT will maintain one through lane of traffi c in each direction except during oc- casional short-term closures. Flag- gers will be on site when temporary closures are required. ADOT will maintain access to homes and busi- nesses throughout construction. Contact person Oney Budge @ 208-317-2315 Quartzsite Art Guild's Sister Club Desert Brushes in Bouse The Quartzsite Desert Flyers, (the radio controlled fl ying club) is starting its 13th season in Quartzsite this year. We welcome back all experienced, new fl yers and spectators to another season of fl ying and camaraderie. The club has a membership of 100 fl yers of all levels: from beginner to the most advanced. We meet each morning, weather permitting at the James B. Colwell Field, 780 North Plymouth Road. Thursday evenings staring at 6:00 pm we have night fl ying. The town, during the summer in an attempt to attract jet planes to the fi eld extended the runway by 125 feet. They also resurfaced the full 625 foot runway length. We have a "cross runway" to take advantage of the northwest winds we frequently experience in Quartzsite. The fi eld con- sists of six fl ight stations, 18 outside work benches and a solid covered shelter to work in out of the wind. The area is covered with carpet to keep the dust down. Our monthly business meeting is held the second Wednesday of every month at Jimmy's hangar, 1365 Datig Drive at 9:00 am. Membership fees are $10.00 annually and a membership in the A.M.A. (Academy of Model Aeronautics) is mandatory. If you have any interest in fl ying, wish to learn how to fl y, or just want to be a spectator and talk to the pilots feel free to join us. Please don't be shy. For more information phone 916-616-7725. This season's Fun Fly and Air Show will be expanded to cover three days, February 8, 9, and 10, 2019. February 8 will have a demonstration of night fl ying, the Saturday will be our regular air show, but expanded to take in the afternoon, the fi nal day will have an informal fun fl y and a swap meet.
