PAGE 3 THE FUTURE AT 1210 E. THIRD A fter assessing our future at IU, the AO House Corporation concluded that to remain a competitive fraternity, we must provide our undergraduate brothers the environment to instill the values, principles, and goals of our fraternity at the same location we have all known. Built in 1925, 1210 E. Third St. has been a part of our legacy for 93 years. It has become clear that we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and meet the needs of our brothers today. UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH IN GREEK MEMBERSHIP Lambda Chi Alpha, like most Greek organizations at Indiana, has experienced tremendous growth in chapter size. Alpha-Omicron currently has more than 160 active members. While this growth is welcomed and appreciated, it does present some difficulties with the current facility. The entire chapter is no longer able to fit in the chapter room and the chapter can no longer have all-chapter dinners due to lack of space. With most members not living in the chapter house, the need for more common space is critical. Our facility does not have the appropriate amount of study and living space to make all brothers feel welcome and at home. Keeping the current footprint of the building intact is our priority. We intend to conduct a full-scale renovation that will provide a space that is reflective of our long history while looking to future success at Indiana University. COMPETITION While Lambda Chi continues to attract some of the top men, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other fraternities that offer better facilities. Over the last decade, many other fraternities at IU have responded to growing chapter size and increased competition within the Greek community by investing in substantial upgrades or rebuilding their facilities. We also compete with the amenities offered in new and renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. Over the past decade, student life on campus has changed dramatically. New and renovated residence halls and newly constructed off-campus apartments offer hotel-style amenities, including fitness centers, luxury pools, game rooms, and more. While living in a fraternity house provides a different experience than living in a residence hall, we still must offer a safe, attractive facility in order to attract quality members. Our response must be bold and ambitious so that we may put Alpha-Omicron on a solid foundation and ensure a successful future for Lambda Chi at Indiana.
