"It was truly a team effort. Wrestling is often viewed as an individual sport, but dual meets are all about team," coach Dave Rottenberg said. Despite a slew of forfeited weight classes Red Bluff grinded out a 46-35 win at Foothill. Headed into the final contested match of the night at 197 pounds Red Bluff led 40-23, but yet the Cougars had 12 points in hand from Spartan forfeits to come at 217 and heavyweight. That left the dual match outcome on the shoulders of sophomore Logan Warneke filling in for an injured teammate in his first varsity start. Warneke added to Spartans wrestling lore by scoring a first period fall over junior Tyler Largent and propelling Red Bluff to the win. The Spartans improved to 2-0 in Sacramento River League duals and hasn't lost to Foothill since it was established as a school in 1991. Chris Alcala got Red Bluff off to a great start with an 8-0 major decision over Nick Paoletti at 108 pounds. Freshman Miguel Blanchard was trailing 10-3 late in the second period, but didn't give up and secured a pin to push the Spartans lead to 100. Senior Dalton Gutierrez wasted little time earning a pin to push Red Bluff to a 16-0 lead. Foothill finally countered when their state ranked superstar Jaxon Fitzgerald scored a pin over Fabian Torres. But Jordan McManus held the Cougars' other state ranked wrestler Zeke Andrade to just a technical fall at 134 pounds. Foothill got a pin at 140 and then a forfeit at 147 to take a 23-16 lead. Red Bluff fought back with its senior class leading the way. Kyle Case, Kyle Crisel and Tucker Gulliford all earned first period pins for 18 more Spartan points. Junior Cody Clinger received a forfeit win at 184 pounds, which set the stage for Warneke's dramatic win. The Spartans travel across coun- ty to the Corning Invitational Saturday. Corning Meanwhile Corning also improved to 2-0 in league duals Wednesday with a 53-27 win over Lassen. Evan McFadden had an outstanding night with a nice throw leading into a first round pin in 59 seconds over Tommy Eigen at 170 pounds. Ben Meister earned a 15-0 technical fall victory over Noah Lindeman at 160 pounds. Corning used forfeit victories by Erik Alvarado, Jacob Tubbs, Shane Hansen, Josh Shults, Seth Danielson, Quinton Jones and Braulio Ruiz to set up an intriguing dual meet with also undefeated Anderson next week. The Hornets announced Thursday they are going ahead with the name change. The NBA still has to approve it, but Commissioner David Stern has said he wouldn't object to any name Benson chose. The league is expected to expedite the change at the start of next season. The new color scheme is blue, gold and red, a departure from the Hornets' teal, purple, gold and white. The Hornets have been in New Orleans since moving from Charlotte for the 2002-03 season. MCT file photo John and Jim Harbaugh speak with their father Jack before the two met Thanksgiving Day 2011. SANTA CLARA (AP) — Jackie Harbaugh will wear a neutral-colored outfit, still to be determined. Her daughter, Joani Crean, little sister to coaching brothers John and Jim Harbaugh, plans to sport all black at the Super Bowl to show no allegiances whatsoever. ''I am wearing whatever fits that day,'' Crean quipped. The entire Harbaugh family — a close-knit, hyper-competitive crew that also includes Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean — realizes it has already won big. They got their Super Bowl victory on Sunday, when each coach did his part to ensure a family reunion in New Orleans next week, with John's Baltimore Ravens facing off against Jim's San Francisco 49ers in the first Super Bowl with sibling coaches on opposite sidelines. One Harbaugh will haul home the Lombardi Trophy from the Big Easy. And, no, the family members haven't decided where to sit for the Feb. 3 NFL title game at the Superdome — or at least they aren't revealing it if they have. She may have been the only one trying to ignore it. The 19-year-old American had just saved five match points and broken Azarenka. But she knew she had to hold serve to stay in her first Grand Slam semifinal whenever Azarenka — the No. 1 player and defending Australian Open champion — returned to Rod Laver Arena. The restless murmuring in the crowd gave way to slow claps. Why had Azarenka chosen that very moment for a medical break? Azarenka eventually hustled onto the court, and Stephens won only three more points, losing 6-1, 6-4. ''I almost did the choke of the year,'' Azarenka said in a frank admission during an on-court interview. ''At 53, having so many chances, I couldn't close it out.'' The crowd that had cheered wildly for Stephens, only 25 hours after she ousted an injured Serena Williams, gave Azarenka tepid applause as she left the court. She'll face 2011 finalist Li Na in the final Saturday night. Given the support Li enjoyed in her 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 2-ranked Maria Sharapova, there's no question which player the crowd will favor in the title match. And it's not Kaepernick's foot speed or the zip on his passes that have been most striking, Alex Smith said Wednesday. "It's the lack of young mistakes that has really jumped out at me," Smith said. "Most young guys come in — yeah, they show flashes, and they think they can play good at times. But then they also seem to have those young moments as well, you know, rookie moments and kind of boneheaded things. "And he hasn't done it. He's played good ball. He's really played patient and played smart." Smith was having the best season of his career, had a 104.1 passer rating and had led the 49ers to a 6-2 record when he suffered a concussion Nov. 11.
