many hands, e Washington Alpha Delt 2 LifeLong LoyaLty Bill Snowden '89 Contributes to Washington Chapter Campaign O ne day in elementary school, this new kid from Chicago named Chris Clarke '89 walked in. That day marked the beginning of a lifelong relationship. It continued through junior high into high school and then college at the University of Washington. Chris and I signed up to be "dormies" because we knew no better, but figured we'd have a great time rooming together. Unknown to either of us, the Greek system was starting to whisper our names. Our other Newport High School friend, Todd Jerome '89, thought it was a great idea that we head out to a fraternity recruitment event. What was a fraternity and what was recruitment? So Todd, Chris, and I head over to the Temple, and as they say, the rest is history. I'm not exactly sure how long we rushed, but we did realize later that we should have taken advantage of the full recruitment period. Before we knew it, we were signed and couldn't wait to move in to the chapter house. We started our pledge year out with a class of 28 great members. Going through that first year, interviewing every single man in the chapter (a great experience and tradition), doing all our pledge chores/tests, learning to balance the social and academic lifestyle, making it successfully through I-week, and getting a Big Brother, we had an unbelievable start to our UW and ΑΔΦ life. The next three years flew by with great times, memories, pictures ("Picture Man" pictures, pre-mobile phone days), and a few future spouses. Most importantly, those years really revolved around the relationships we built together. Our pledge class was always very close. While we have all experienced life (marriage, kids, etc.) after the fraternity, we've still maintained an amazingly close circle of friends that still get together regularly. For many years, we met the last Friday of every month for lunch at the same place. We've since moved to a quarterly lunch, and every year we have a holiday party that tries to tie into our era of the house. This past year we had 30-plus members show up. To this day, I continue to see, talk to, or stay in touch with brothers from the chapter on a personal or professional basis. The reach of ΑΔΦ and the brotherhood not only spans the years we were in the chapter house, but the decades before and after our era. There are times we make it back to the Temple with I-week being one of the memorable yearly visits. It's amazing to see how the chapter house has weathered the test time of time, and the amazing quality of men that make up the chapter today is beyond belief. But for some reason, the creak of that front door opening just opens up all the memories of your time in the chapter house and the friends and faces that made those years what they are. We recognize the chapter house is in need of a major remodel and that offers both opportunity to give back and a responsibility to pay it forward to the active members now. We also owe it to those future members that we don't know yet that will continue the rich tradition of the ΑΔΦ. The chapter has left an amazingly positive impression upon each of us and has given us lifetime friendships. Now it's our time to return that opportunity to those coming in behind us.
