Anchored In Delta Gamma at the University of Kansas fall 2018 inside: Alumnae Spotlights p.1-3 • Welcome, New Members p. 4 Beth Adair Hall '81 Is Hooked to Delta Gamma The Importance of Sisterhood B eth Adair Hall '81 felt love when she stepped into the Beta Kappa Chapter house. The women of Delta Gamma were so close and enthusiastic about the Chapter and Beth wanted to be part of that feeling. She was invited to attend a recruitment event by Mary Flavin White '80, who was the one of the reasons Beth joined. "It felt natural to be there and everyone in the Chapter seemed to love each other." Beth's love for Beta Kappa has never faded. Her sisterhood has pulled her out of some extreme, life- changing times. She always knows she can count on her Beta Kappa sisters to be there for her. "About eight years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. My Beta Kappa sisters were there for me. They checked in on me and made sure I was doing well and in good spirits. I could not have made it through without their support. We all seem to rally together when one of our sisters is struggling." Beth's tie to Delta Gamma is strong and she recalls some of her favorite times in the Chapter. "Some of the simplest times were coming home for lunch and watching All My Children with my sisters. We all loved it!" Beth also recalls a special event that no longer takes place, the Little Pinafore Party. "We all dressed in sailor outfits, which we made ourselves. The party was always water themed and near a body of water." (Continued on page 3) DELTA GAMMA AWARED 2018 CHAPTER OF THE YEAR BY KU PANHELLENIC I am so honored to serve as Beta Kappa Chapter president. The fall semester is flying by, but our sisters at 1015 Emery have filled our time with philanthropy events, meeting our new members, and sisterhood events. One of our highlights so far was earning the KU Panhellenic 2018 Chapter of the Year Award in excellence. LOOKING FORWARD TO ANCHOR SPLASH Our annual Anchor Splash will be held in November. We are excited to be part of such an important event to raise funds to support awareness for the visually impaired. We will participate in the synchronized swimming, relay races, and individual competition. We have also organized sisterhood events for all Beta Kappas to enjoy throughout the semester. These include: a lava yoga class, a trip to Sky Zone, and a sunrise event for seniors to discuss goals that will be followed up by a sunset event at the end of the year. We also had a few surprise mid-week events like cotton candy and an ice cream truck to get us through the school week. UPSTANDING WOMEN FOR INITIATION At the end of initiation week, we welcomed 67 new members. We were delighted to meet all of our new sisters and lead them to "Do Good." Taylor Sharp '15 and the member education team will be leading the new initiates to model high ideals of friendship and promote their educational and cultural interests to help develop their best qualities of character. ACADEMICS ON THE RISE The Beta Kappa Chapter continues to focus on our academics and has been working hard to improve our GPA. Our steadfast work has paid off and we are proud to report our GPA has risen by 0.02 up to a 3.37. Our sisters are determined to uphold the Beta Kappa standards of educational excellence. In our efforts to promote academic stability and foster beneficial study habits, we host weekly study nights at the Chapter house. HOME IS WHERE THE ANCHOR DROPS I have enjoyed my time with my Beta Kappa sisters and am blessed to have seen so much growth for our Chapter. I was honored to be able to attend Convention this past summer in Phoenix, Ariz. If you can't remember the last time you visited the Chapter house please drop by. We would love to see you!
