I t's hard to believe the holiday season is already upon us, and that we have been serving as Xi's House Corporation co-presidents for just over a year now. In our last newsletter, we focused on coming home and coming together to support our beloved sisterhood. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we'd like to recognize our sisters who so graciously share their time and talents with Xi's House Corporation and Chapter Advisory Board. The 2018-2019 Xi House Corporation Board: • Barb Ibach • Catharine Perry, Chapter Advisor • Deb Johnson • Mandy Hoover, Treasurer • Nichole Palmer, Facilities Advisor • Nicole Skudlarek, Secretary • Renae Slaughter The 2018-2019 Xi Chapter Advisory Board: • Alessia Satterfield, Membership Programming • Alexa Reed, Ritual & Fraternity Appreciation • Antoni Hanigan, Recruitment • Catharine Perry, Chapter Advisor • Charli Prai, Finance • Denise McLain, Intellectual Development • Giana Boyle, Philanthropy • Kayla Hansen, PR & Marketing • Laura Novotny, Chapter Relations & Standards • Lauren Gayer, New Member Education • Lindsay Kelly, CRIC • Nichole Palmer, Facility Operations • Renata Washa, Risk Management As we look toward 2019, we will continue to work diligently to strengthen Xi and call all of our sisters home. T he Educational Corporation Board joined Xi Chapter in celebrating its academic improvement at its annual Recognition Ceremony in September. The ceremony recognized 19 members with 4.0 GPAs, 34 Dean's List members and 57 ΑΧΩ Honors who received a GPA of 3.6 or above. Individuals with the most improved GPAs received a scholarship for all of their hard work and dedication. These achievements helped to lift the chapter's overall GPA to 3.349 during spring 2018, up from 3.284 the previous semester. Meanwhile, the number of actives on academic probation continues to decline, from 37 a year ago to 24 currently. There is still work to be done, but Xi Chapter is moving in the right direction! These achievements are the result of a stronger emphasis on academics in recruitment and a commitment by chapter leadership to build sisters' study skills and motivation to succeed. VP Intellectual Development Skylar Murphy '16 sat down with Molly DeRoin '16, who received a scholarship for improving her GPA, to learn what motivated and inspired her. Molly is a junior and a valued member of Alpha Chi Omega who worked very hard to improve her grade point average. Molly has always been motivated to succeed and was extremely upset when her organic chemistry class caused her GPA to drop. Being a pre-nursing major, Molly knew she needed to work extra hard in order to get her grades back where she wanted them to be. This semester Molly is feeling and doing better than ever and can be found studying in the library nearly every day. The Educational Corporation is committed to supporting the women of Alpha Chi Omega and is looking into providing more tables in the basement to be used as a quiet study space.
