6 The Katydid Mary Frances Robertson '18 I am from Mountain Brook, Ala., and growing up, I have always been very enthusiastic about fashion. In eighth grade, I decided to start my own fashion blog, MBtoMadison. It has been so much fun developing my social media page, managing a website, and putting outfits together! The name of my blog, MBtoMadison, originates from my goal of moving from Mountain Brook (MB) to Madison Avenue in New York City. Since starting my blog, I have been given many opportunities and it has been such a rewarding experience. While I do not see myself as a full-time blogger, I have enjoyed using MBtoMadison as my outlet for all things fashion and look forward to pursuing a career in the fashion industry. Ansley Byars '17 I'm a sophomore from Oxford, Miss., and am majoring in chemistry and minoring in biology on the pre-dental track! On campus, I am both an Avanti Orientation Leader and Greek Ambassador, two organizations which have helped me to learn so much about our University. Being an Avanti this summer and meeting all the incoming freshmen at orientation has really helped this big campus feel more like a community. I have also learned so much more about the University than I expected. Through being an Avanti, I have been able to continue helping the current freshman class by participating in "Yea, Alabama!," a program for incoming students to help them adjust to college life. I was excited to work as a Greek Ambassador this year and answer questions about Greek life, and give tours of the ΚΔ Chapter House. I'm also involved in the Pre-Dental Society, which provides information, education, and opportunities to students interested in a career in dentistry. We also participate in community service projects geared toward oral health. Vivian Gilmore '16 I'm a junior from Tuscaloosa, Ala., majoring in mechanical engineering. I have served as vice president of campus relations for the B+ Foundation for the past two years. With this organization, I help raise awareness and fundraise for childhood cancer. The B+ Foundation is truly special because it not only funds research for childhood cancer, it also provides immediate assistance to families with children currently undergoing treatment. It is the #1 provider of financial assistance to families in need. As vice president of campus relations, I coordinate with organizations on campus to host and sponsor fundraisers. Through this position, I have made connections with many individuals that are involved in all different organizations, allowing me to meet amazing people. This has been such a humbling experience, and has allowed me to be a part of something so much bigger than myself. The University of Alabama is such a large community, that I am so encouraged by the involvement thus far, and cannot wait to see what an impact UA will make on childhood cancer going forward! Elizabeth Summers '15 I am a senior majoring in public relations from Mountain Brook, Ala. I serve as a media coordinator for Capstone Agency. Capstone Agency is a student-run integrated communications agency focused on strategical and innovative communication for our clients. My client is the National Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). As a media coordinator, I develop media kits and news releases, oversee pitching of media materials, and monitor media to develop content strategy. I serve as vice president of membership and finance for the University of Alabama PRSSA organization. In my position, I manage all financial transactions and records for the chapter. I am responsible for executing a communications plan for membership recruitment and I lead a membership committee to create and execute a long-term strategic plan for PRSSA. I am a writer and editor for Platform Magazine as well, which is an online, student-run publication focused on the discussion and advancement of the public relations industry. Additionally, I am a member of the communications team, which promotes Platform Magazine through social media platforms. I serve as marketing and brand manager of the Office of Student Media. In this position, I manage and direct all marketing and branding efforts, which involves coordinating team members in social media, events, design, and promotions. Pledge Class Member Spotlight
