The Delta Mu Chapter was ecstatic to be selected as the "Most Outstanding Sorority" by Order of Omega, a leadership honor society for members of Greek organizations. The Chapter was selected for exemplifying high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and involvement. Chapter leadership and member involvement have been exceptional. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, Environmental Affairs committee, and Community Service committee are new additions to the leadership team and have allowed more members to connect with campus and the local community. SISTERLY EXCURSIONS We have traveled outside the immediate Tuscaloosa community throughout the year, as well, through sisterhood events. For example, we visited the Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex to attend a production of The Lion King and took advantage of a beautiful Sunday afternoon to visit the Birmingham Zoo. ACADEMICS ON THE RISE The Chapter's GPA has increased and Delta Mu's members have become more involved and influential students on campus. The tutoring network of our Chapter has grown, leading to even more Tri Deltas sharing their knowledge and experience, bettering other members of the Chapter and enriching academics. The Tide Together Student Support Fund continues to provide assistance to UA students in need or crisis who are identified through the University's Office of Student Care and Well-Being. Funds may be used to purchase food, personal hygiene items, lodging, transportation, gift cards, groceries, and other essentials for a student in need. It started when the executive board of the Delta Mu Chapter of Delta Delta Delta set Chapter goals for the year in January 2016. DELTA MU GIVES BACK Outside of our Chapter, we sponsored numerous events, including Lean On: Alabama's Night of Blues, which celebrates the women of our states and promotes the values we want to uphold collectively as a group. Lean On: Alabama is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that brings women together to form intergenerational partnerships by building an innovative statewide platform that promotes collaboration, development, and investment in each other and the community. We also sponsored a blood drive with Phi Gamma Delta. The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation reached out to our Chapter at the beginning of the semester to congratulate us on our fundraising successes in the past year. As a reward, we were granted our very own B+ hero, a child who has battled or is currently battling cancer. Heroes are then "adopted" by college sororities or fraternities, whose goal is to plan events and hangouts to make the heroes lives more enjoyable during treatment. This huge honor not only took a lot of work but will also help our Chapter become more involved in the Tuscaloosa area. We hosted a Mardi Gras dinner for the hero at the Delta Mu House. SUPPORTING ST. JUDE Within our Chapter, the philanthropy team has planned our three annual fundraisers: Jam for St. Jude, Crawfish for a Cure, and Cirque du St. Jude. The events will be at a fraternity house with food and a live band. These three annual events entertain anyone on campus looking to support St. Jude. We held the second annual silent auction, Miracles at the Capstone, benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which was a huge success and raised more than $40,000 in support of the hospital. Our members visited the hospital and the Tri Delta Place as part of an annual trip. They even met the CFO, Pat Keel. Sincerely Yours, our annual letter-writing campaign, was also a huge success. The letters were sent to our loved ones in hopes of bringing donations from all over the world to support St. Jude. We also hosted our seventh annual Game Day Give Back tailgate at Tri Delta during the University of Alabama's Homecoming weekend. Around 800 people attended the event, and it raised about $10,000. We are currently planning Delta House of Pancakes to raise money for our philanthropy. We are so very lucky to have our special partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and work every day to help them treat kids suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases. We've had a great year and fall semester so far. Please stop by the house if you're in the Tuscaloosa area. We would love for our new members to meet our supportive alumnae and hear your stories of when you were active members. Our door is always open to our alumnae!
