Mu Chapter Strand of Pearls 2 S tephanie Katz Cohen '95 has made headlines as she was named Chief Strategy Officer of Goldman Sachs less than a year ago, and was recently appointed an ex officio member of the firm's Management Committee. She is among seven other women who are on the 33-person panel. Stephanie began her rapid incline after graduating from the University of Illinois in 1999 with a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in finance. She then joined Goldman Sachs as an analyst in 1999, where she later became a managing director in 2008 and worked her way up to partner in 2014. Before her appointment to Chief Strategy Officer, Stephanie was the Global Head of Financial Sponsor Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). Previously, she was sector captain for General Industrials in the Global Industrials Group and a member of the M&A Group. In 2015, Stephanie made it onto Fortune's 40 under 40 list of the most influential young people in business, joining names like Taylor Swift, John Oliver, Jessica Alba, and Ronda Rousey. This past May, Jessica was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Gies College of Business during the 2018 Spring Luncheon. And last month, American Banker named Stephanie to its 2018 Most Powerful Women in Finance list. Stephanie has always focused on the importance of community both personally and professionally. She credits AEPhi for lifelong friends as well as instilling the importance of service. Professionally, Stephanie has spearheaded many formal and informal initiatives to foster stronger networks for the advancement of women. She also actively mentors women early in their careers. Stephanie serves on the national board of directors of Reading Partners, which focuses on literacy in grammar schools, and as a member of the board of Quill.org. There is no doubt that she will continue to make groundbreaking moves. Congratulations on all of your success and achievements, Stephanie!
