ENTRE NOUS P i B e t a P h i a t t h e U n i v e r s i t y o f S o u t h e r n C a l i f o r n i a • F a l l 2 0 1 8 EDITOR: Laurie Bayless Maslauski '73 | lbmaslauski@cox.net COLLEGIATE CORRESPONDENT: Emily Klawonn '16 H appy fall! e weather is changing, football season is well underway, and California Gamma is heading into our 101st year at USC! My favorite part of my job is meeting so many Pi Phi alumnae. I love hearing about past alumnae experiences. Although Pi Phi lore has spanned decades in 667 W. 28th Street, one thing stays true: the loyal friendships of sisterhood that we all feel near and dear. In life, we must never forget who has walked before us. Our California Gamma success is based solely on the legacy built through many generations of Pi Beta Phis. Many years after college, I have been fortunate to live close to many of my sorority sisters. Our bonds are strong. e abundance of arrow, angel, and pineapple ornaments, placemats, bottle openers, stationery, etc., that we have given to each other throughout the years just never seems to be enough because they symbolize the love for our wine and blue. One of my favorite memories is with one of my sorority sisters, Leanne. We were driving to an event with our young children. ey were all tired and cranky in the back of the suburban. We sang song after nursery rhyme song. After running out of songs, we started singing Pi Phi songs we learned during our many hours of song practice as pledges. It did the trick! e kids were entertained and we were surprised we remembered the songs! ese are the moments I treasure. e past matters and molds the future of our chapter. We cannot forget the core values of Pi Beta Phi: Integrity, Lifelong Commitment, Honor and Respect, Personal and Intellectual Growth, Philanthropic Service to Others, and Sincere Friendship. We need to keep these values with us as we navigate through many aspects of our lives. Great words to live by in these trying times. SUMMER UPDATES AT 667 W. 28TH STREET e House Corporation has been busy this summer. Our house is busting at the seams and we don't have much storage. is summer, we cleaned out closets and had shelves built in storage closets and pantries with the intention of keeping our treasures more orderly and easier to find. We bought 100 Chiavari chairs, eight buffet tables, and a Lucite podium to keep the rental costs down for Presents, recruitment week, and scholarship dinner. We also designed a track for curtains during special ceremonies, and we can take the curtains down and store them when not in use. We installed wainscoting in our grand foyer that makes the foyer look finished! We bought new gym equipment, new washers and dryers, and replaced office chairs and lamps in our second floor study room. Our AC system has been refurbished, cleaned, serviced, and is working! We also bought three portable AC units for recruitment and other big events. Our house has never looked better thanks to your kind donations. House Corporation would love new members! Please contact me via email if you would like to learn more about what we do. We would love to hear from you! ank you to all our devoted and loyal alumnae. Together we can make a difference. Gratefully, Susan Brownfield Beall '85 Chapter House Corporation President thebealls@yahoo.com Legacy, Devotion and Loyal Alumnae
